They gave up 24 points and a bunch of yards against Eastern Washington on Saturday...wondering how this is different than any other year.

I'm just sayin...How are they gonna stop the good ball clubs...

Tech always manages to beat good ball clubs every year, however they also manage to lose to bad ball clubs as well. This may be another typical Tech year, shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone.

Yeah I was wondering when someone was going to post this....330+ yards passing? Yikes but it is early still.

My manager @ the Four Seasons is a die hard Tech fan and he is a little worried @ the Nevada game now. That game is flying under the radar.

same sand aggy, different year...

KICK their *** in Lubbock-plenty to do until then!

I know it seems like the game was really close by looking at the box score, but take a look at a lot of the details as the game progressed.
Tech went up 21-0 in almost a heartbeat in the 1st half. It might be safe to assume the team got a little too comfortable and stopped playing. Then bang bang bang, a more than respectable team creeped up in and gave them quite a scare.
I'm also pretty sure the defense gave up only around 25 yards on 20 something running attempts as well.
Also look at the yards per catch, washington averaged just over 5 yards a reception... and in my opinion that's definitely not stellar.
Word around the rumor mill says that Harrell never really got into a rhythm but still got 530+ yards passing...that's just sick IMO.
The defense also got 3 picks, while Harrell threw one, and he fumbled once on the snap. They botched 2 field goals and had 18 or something penalties. Didn't they also muff a punt.
So it looks kind of to me that they had a mistake-laden game...but still with some ridiculous production on both sides of the ball.

Give them a lot of time, they could still be very, very dangerous...especially in Lubbock.

Good read on their game but if their lookin at our hip pocket every other play on defense, they're still the same team...

well, I think this is going to be a good year for tech, but anyone that was expecting them to go 11-1 or win the big 12 south was delusional to begin with. IMO they'll lose 2-3 games in conference, which will put them pretty close to us but probably still #3 in the division. Tech is the single most consistent and easy to predict program in college football.

The scores were pretty much in line with what a bunch of other Top 25 teams did vs. their cupcake opponents. Everything that went wrong is fixable and you can bet Leach will make adjustments. Sticking with the 10-2 prediction.

I was there with my Red Raider wife, and airforceg nailed it. Very sloppy game by Harrell and Tech, yet they had 550 passing. 14 penalties first half. The D forced turnovers. No blitzes. Leach rotated players freely. Look for a dramatic improvement. This Tech team is scary good.

Good offense when not shooting self in foot (no surprise there). Defense looked variously good and ineffectual against a FCS (I-AA) team. EWU came close to scoring more than they did-- their 24 was no fluke. So far it seems like same old Tech-- dangerous to all and beatable by even some cellar-dwellers on the wrong might.

Tech is the kind of team who loses to Nevada but then beats Texas later in the season. They are just unpredictable. We seem to have their number recently, but I won't take that to the bank. I will just say it this way, we are the team to beat not the other way around.

The keys to beating Tech are always the same, knock the QB down and capitalize on their ****** defense. Harrell is not a Heisman caliber QB, he just has big numbers. If he gets rattled he will throw pick on top of pick.

i don't think future tt opponents can plan on the raiders having 170 yards in penalties.

that's right, tt had 170 penalty yards assessed against them. huge boost to an opponent.

I think future opponents can plan on Tech giving up a lot of penalty yards. That has been one of their hallmarks under Leach. Nothing in the first game changes that history.

during the leach era, tt has traditionally been heavily penalized--but not 170 yards a game.

you obviously won't see that every week from them.

Well everybody knows that Texas gets all the favorable calls, right? And Texas Tech always gets screwed. Never mind the favorable call at the goal line to give them the win over Oklahoma a few years ago. That one apparently doesn't count.

I have relatives who are Tech fans. I love Leach and respect the strides their program has made in recent years, but the persecution complex with some of their fans gets really irritating after a while. My relatives STILL insist that Texas gets state money to fund our athletic programs, despite the truth that our athletic budget is actually self-sustaining.
