Recruiting over the last 5 years

Looking back, I can now see that we were in on some really good players; but, in recruiting, it doesn't matter if you finish 2nd or 52nd for a recruit's signature.

I recall lamenting over losing Kelsey Bone. As it turned out, the real loss that class was Taylor Hill of Minnesota. Seemed like she was all but committed to Texas until her Buckeye brother told her that their parents would go to his games and not hers if she chose Texas.

Watching Hill score so effortlessly at Ohio State makes me think she was the biggest miss for Coach G.

Now, from an evaluation perspective, I've voiced my opinion that so many schools (including Texas ) passed on Houston's Carolyn Davis, who is now at Kansas. What we really haven't had the last 5 years is a consistent, offensive-minded power forward. Davis would have fit that role, IMO.

I'm sure there several other names, but those are the two that come to mind at the moment.

We've missed on a few recruits that we actually had a shot at. Bone was not one of them. We did however miss out on Simmons of Tenn and Taylor Hill. Those hurt. We also lost out on two post players that we went after pretty hard. The player that went to Penn St her name escapes me, but we also missed out on Waltia Rolle of UNC

I coached against Meighan all four years of her hs career and her freshman and Sophmore years she was very into texas and coach G all the way up until a tournament in CA her jr year where Tenn extended the scholorship offer. If that wouldnt have happened I have little doubts from talking to her parents personally that she would've been a longhorn.

And we were a "finalist" for bone but she was locked onto USC or A&m her entire sr year. From speaking w/ coach malone she was never really in the stable enough to have had a legitimate shot.

Texas had a shot at Bone again when she decided to transfer out of South Carolina. It was between A&M and Texas...

It sounds like you have inside knowlege regarding Meighan. I have none, so rely strictly on the articles written about her recruitment.

Obviously, it's water under the bridge. But, she would have been a difference-maker, that's for sure.

There was just never anything written about her considering Texas (that I could recall):

Yes recruiting is important but I just want the coach to be able to use whatever recruits we do recruit and produce a winning team. We're not going to get the #1, 2 or 3 recruits year. I'm more interested in a coach that can coach who ever and where ever. Can you turn your puzzle pieces into a winning team? That is all I want to know.

Yes recruiting in TX is important but there are 49 other states w/ top recruits as well. So I could careless if all of our recruits are from other states. Let them fight over the TX recruits and we can look at other states and recruit their #1 recruits. So while they're fighting over the #1 recruit in TX we have already landed the #1 recruit in CA, #1 in LA, #1 in NY.

A Brittnie Griner is not going to come along every year. Hopefully Imani stays and we can begin building our inside presence.
