ugh... stupid coaching carousel crap. first florida, then usc, then tenn.. and we may be dragged into it. we got to hold our breath at this point and hope that we can keep muschamp. best case, he shoots it down tomorrow, and we're back in good shape. he takes that crap job, and we can kiss our 5 star targets goodbye sadly

For some people

I don't know how much more clear Muschamp can make it that he loves it here at Texas and isn't interested in going anywhere else. We are just fine!

i'm not saying he's going. i don't think he's going. but anyone that thinks he can't go is truly naive. all i'm saying is we have to endure this crap until he (hopefully) clears this up tomorrow.

Mack's quote about Muschamp rushing down the hall to tell him that he is not interested in taking other jobs that have come up is pretty convincing to me. Muschamp probably has the sense that he is laying the ground work for his tenure here rather than adding to his impressive resume.

I think the opportunity to actually be mentored by someone like Mack Brown as you transition into a head coaching position is another big attraction.

That said, it would be naive to think he wouldn't even consider a job like Tennessee. I'm just not too worried about it.

If the stories are true, he'd have to leave without his wife and family and I don't see that happening. Furthermore, if he did take another job, he's not the man we thought he was and not the man we want.

If someone were to offer me a job paying 4x my current salary to work in some crappy city like Houston or Dallas, I would probably do it and leave Austin.

Depending on how this unfolds, this could put Texas in a better position with recruits...it would show them that the "coach-in-waiting" is not just lip service, but that they will be playing for either Brown or Muschamp while they are on campus.

I think if Musch is to go, this would be the time. Hopefully he feels that he still has some to learn, and wants to be the Texas guy...maybe the wife can exert some leverage for us.

I am probably in the minority but I would like to see him be a head coach somewhere else and if he has success hire him back later. I don't like hiring coaches w/ no head coaching experience. Good coordinators don't always make good head coaches

I hear that we are gradually handing over more duties and responsibilities to our Coach-in-Waiting. He will be an almost head coach by the time Mack Brown is ready to hand over the reins.
Muschamp's alma mater is Georgia, and maybe he could be swayed by an attractive offer from them, but would he really see the job as better than inheriting UT's top spot in a few years' time? That may be our only worry, and it may not even come open.

true...but it is a little different when he is specifically being mentored by one of the greats for that very purpose. i think he will do great, but i want us to keep this formula for as long as possible! (although i wouldn't mind a shake up on the other side of the ball).

Didn't Muschamp turn down Tennessee last year before they hired Kiffin? However, I know things can change over a year's time, so I guess you never know.

This really sux! I expected Hicks to come out yesterday or today to announce, but with all the recent coaching changes....that will likely not happen.

Muschamp is staying...formal announcement coming soon...not my info, just passing it along....let's hope confirmation comes by way of announcement soon...

You are in the minority, and WM will gradually assume more and more duties, becoming the de facto head coach over the next few years. There won't be a big jump of unknown proportions, because the Head Coach in Waiting will have become the Almost But Not Quite Head Coach in every way.
The transition will be very smooth.
Now, resume signing the last couple of five-star recruits, and let's go on to the off season.
