Forget that. Check out some of Urban's recruits. Kids that want to go to prison, it seems.

I don't know...maybe I'm just a middle-aged white guy that doesn't "get" this whole rap/hiphop ********, but for my money, these kids look like wannabe thugs. Hell, maybe full-on thugs. Can you imagine seeing a picture of Earl in a getup like he's ready to rob a stagecoach? Neither can I.

so who was it that wore a bride dress in a picture once? I do understand your statment because I also do not understand the gangsta look...

...wow comparing ricky with these punk thugs?
wtf.gif

btw...i'm a hispanic of the new wave/alternative ilk....and i don't get that crap either.

I have relatives in prison (who were gang members, well, still are), love rap and hip hop, lived in a very seedy area of D.C. for years and I still don't get this ******** either. I sort of find it sad and funny at the same time. They have no idea how douchey they look.

Man, they're just keeping it real. Why should you care if they want to do hoodrat things with their friends, afterall its fun to bad things.

It's fashion.

The idea that a 'new wave/alternative' type would not understand this is laughable. You used to get beat up for looking new wave, chased and called '******.'

The first picture: money and power (is there such a thing as a Texas who doesn't feel the allure of the handgun?). Respect.

The others: fashion, sense of belonging, comrades in arms. Age old ****.

Meanwhile, our track record on the 40 isn't so special that we can take comfort in pointing fingers (We're Texas, they're gangstas). We have pretty dismal graduation rates and our share of gangstas (Romance Taylor, for instance).

Oh...i'm sorry. I meant acdc and rob zombie, or maybe george strait and dolly parton...who gives a flying shite.

...and that looks more like a lifestyle than just fashion. a lifestyle that by all outward appearances espouses crime, violence and general thuggish behavior.

...but i'm no expert on it. I know that it ain't my cup o' tea, i know peeps that like rap & hip hop and don't dress like that...

And, its R-a-m-o-n-c-e

I'm gonna go listen to Blue Monday and How Soon is Now.

Current graduation rates are from the 02 or 03 year. That was close to the time Mack made the recruiting philosophy change.

I saw one stat in the past 3 years we have had 69 academic all Big XII players. Seems impressive to me but I admittedly do not have anything to compare it to.

That is what sucks about graduation rates. They're all outdated, yet they are used to judge current programs. But I have been disappointed with Mack's "good kids who graduate" spiel, while watching at least one key player a year get into trouble with the law.

Lamarr Houston's arrest last season was really what got to me because he was "a good kid." He did well in school, he went to church, he never missed class or practice. He was, by all accounts, a great example and role model for the younger players. When a player like that has a moment in his brain where he thinks it's okay to drink and drive, you've got problems. To me, it was just as shocking as if Colt or Jordan or one of the Acho brothers got arrested for DWI.

But the difference between Mack and Urban Meyer is that Mack appropriately punishes his players without prompting from the media or the general public. Meyer essentially has to be shamed into doing the right thing when it comes to discipline.

if you average one kid a year getting in some kind of trouble, then you are doing pretty good i think. that is one in say 20 -24 kids (an average class).

if i birthed 20 kids, i have a feelign at least one of them would be getting in trouble during their college years.

they're kids.

Arrest rate for DWI in early 20s adults is about 1.6% of the population in a given year. Higher for males and minorities. It would be an oddity if a team of 100 young, largely minority, adult males went very long without a DWI arrest. Even good kids with some supervision will do bad things. I am reasonably satisfied with what I know of how Mack is recruiting and in-loco-parenting these days. Of course, I would be delighted to see less trouble.
