From time to time I pop on here and share my strength, experience, and hope with regards to my recovery from cocaine, meth, alcohol, and pretty much anything I could get my hands on. I get good feedback, mostly people asking for encouragement, and have made some wonderful friends due to this transparency. I wanted to share something else, the new chapter of my recovery.
On MArch 9th, of 2009, we launched "Sober By Grace." Sober by Grace is a full-blown, 501-c-3 charitable org. that houses recovering men. We work with AA, NA, CA, CR, CASA, Overcomers: with recovery, it truly does take a village. This new facet of my recovery has done so much for my personal recovery, I wanted to let you guys and gals that are struggling with your own recovery know that the best way to move past that, is to consistently work with a fellow alcoholic/addict. Whether it's in a sponsorship/mentoring role, or just watching sports on the tube. (Our guys have been "subjected" to a wonderful CWS series run, and a great Colt-led football season. Helping them on the road to recovery, and giving a healthy dose of Horn sports: What MORE can you REALLY ask for????)
In any case, life has been great. We changed from Sober By Grace, Inc, to The James 2:26 Project this year, after being open for a year. The biggest change was going from Inc, to Ministries...or maybe it was adding the human trafficking element to what we are doing. I mean, going for strictly recovery to opening Rahab's Place, a home for women escaping the bondage of addiction , dancing, prostitution, or stragith up slavery was a HUGE deal. But we're beyond blessed, on a daily basis.
That now includes 3 full time ministries:
o Sober By Grace Ministries provides Christ-based transitional living homes for recovering alcoholics and addicts
o Saved By Grace Ministries is a group effort between Sober By Grace, Inc., Born2Party, the Dallas and Fort Worth Chapters of Exodus Cry, and other small non-profits, with the purpose of helping victims of human trafficking. Rahab’s Place is the first home, and will be geared toward adult women.
o Fire in the Night is a ministry that hits the streets in the deep nights most Fridays to feed, physically and spiritually, the homeless left out of the shelter by choice, or due to natural consequences. (Intoxication, etc.) When the weather warms up, we will also be adding feet-washing to the weekly ministry!
It isnt always easy, but its always better than it was before 12/6/06. My email is answered 24/7. IF anyone is struggling out there, don't hesistate to call. There is a solution: You don't have to be miserable. And you don't have to become a statistic. The Link
