Today, I just bought a Troy-Bilt TB25CS Trimmer. This thing is awesome. It has:
-Easy Assist Start
This starts the trimmer with no more then 2 pulls
Sweet!
-String Attachment with inner reel
The hassle of stringing line made easy
-Attachment capable
I bought the Edger Accessory and "WOW!" it looks like a pro cut my lawn.

So I got the trimmer with the edger accessory. This machine worked great and started without any hassle. I would recommend this trimmer to anyone looking for one.
Note: I found this product at Lowe's. Home Depot does not carry it.
-Troy-Bilt is rated The Consumer Report Best Buy on the Trimmer list for June 2004.

I hope this helps anyone looking for a new trimmer/edger.

Hornhooper,
Thanks for the info. I have been looking at the Troy-built trimmers at Lowes. They had one that came with the motor with the interconnect and both the trimmer and the edger attachments. Is this the one that you got? Or did you go for one of the 4 cycle models (dont need to add oil to the gas).

I got the 2 cycle. You have to add oil to the gas. I got the Trimmer and then the Edger accessory was 70 dollars extra. I think your model is the more expensive one.

I use Echo. I got tired of throwing away crappy power tools. The Troybilt was one of the worst I've ever had. It barely lasted a year.
I have 3 acres with heavy Johnson grass infestation, and it tends to break stuff. Lesser string trimmers cower in shame.
With that Echo, I am Vishnu the Destroyer.
A lot of commercial outfits use Echo, they're much more durable.

Myke, I Troy Bilt has a 2 year warranty. It was in Consumer Reports as a Best Buy.
The Trimmer cost 129 dollars.
The Edger Accessory cost 69 dollars.

Yes, but and quality echo trimmer is $300+ if you get the stick edger.

I have that same troy built. It's okay, I really miss my redmax. If you do go buy the troy built make sure you get the one with the straight neck and not the curved one. The curved one I have gives some bad angles and gets your back sore.

If you have a small-medium sized lawn, and are trimmin nothing but grass, I recommend the Black & Decker cordless recharchable trimmer. I trim & edge my and my parent's lawns each week with it on the same charge. I love that it's electric (non-polluting) while at the same time as cordless.

It is NOT for weeds, though. I only use gas-powered trimmers for those.

I did not realize my trimmer was so old! I went to look at models and they do not even make the heavier models anymore or at least I did not see any.

I bought a craftsman 32cc trimmer 10 years ago and have been extremely satisfied. It is a little too large for my needs and difficult to carry around for extended periods, but damn, that thing will chop through anything if you are willing to sacrifice a little string. It came with a metal blade also, but I found anything the blade would cut the string could also. Why bother changing? I regularly take it back on the greenbelt and knock down the undergrowth and just give it hell.(May have done that a little too much, now the auto string feed on the bottom unit does not work correctly. Sometimes I have to cut the string to the proper length myself if it overfeeds)

My neighbors have both been through two or three trimmers each due to starting problems and other operating problems but the Craftsman just keeps plugging along. Fires second pull everytime. After the ten years of abuse I have given mine, I have no problem recommending Craftsman products.

I don't have much of a yard so I bought a 31cc Ryobi from Harbor Freight for $65. I know its cheap but I don't need much and it is cheap.

My Ryobi didn't last a single Summer at my house.
My favorite was my neighbor's big T-bar Echo.
That sumbitch was like a Panzer tank. You had to wear a big harness to carry it.
It would blow out a car window at 200 yards with a pebble if you weren't careful.

I just got my second Homelite in about 10 years. About $100 bucks at Home Depot (not the cheapest model).

2 cycle, zip start, 17" .080 line, straight shaft, works great. Use it until it wears out and toss it.
