As my wife and I are both about to go crazy with our jobs, she has mercifully suggested that we take a short (long weekend) vacation. We usually head to Vegas or NYC for something like that, but this time we're both adamant about just grabbing a spot on the beach and chilling for a few days.

I'm thinking Mexico, Nassau, or Jamaica for three nights- I don't really want to break the bank. And we've never done all-inclusive, so I really don't know where to start. I just want something nice, with decent food/drinks where I can decompress.

Anyone want to offer any help?

Dreams in Puerto Vallarta. Got married there in January. Cheaper than Cabo and just as beautiful. The resort was first class as well.

Are you dead set on all inclusive? I'm not a big fan of these.

My favorite for what you want, though not all inclusive, is Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach in Cabo. Its on the Pacific side.

Not dead set I suppose, I was just hoping to get something taken care of and not have to think about anything (expenses included) while we're there. Coming home from a vacation and checking my account to find that I spent $800 on drinks is an asswhip.

If all-inclusive is what you want, Royal Hideaway in Playa del Carmen is the way to go. My parents dragged us to all sorts of all-inclusives as kids. Typically, the food sucked and my folks would complain about the low-end alcohol. Royal Hideway has very good food and premium liquor.

If you must do all inclusive, that is the place to go..

The Moon Palace in Cancun is awesome.

-4 restaurants with different tastes of food
-Private and secluded beaches
-Dance Club on premises
-18 hole master golf course
-Jacuzzi in every room
-Showers big enough to fit 6 people
-Wristband that allows you to travel to the other Palace resorts via a shuttle where you can indulge in their all-inclusive ammenaties

The service was awesome for a place where they do not take tips. Highly recommend staying there.

The Moon Palace is one of the more expensive properties though. If you want to save a few bucks, shack up in one of the other Palace resorts and shuttle to the Moon.

If you do Jamaica, Sandals is nice albeit overpriced.

The key to all-inclusive is whether or not you like the food. I'd definitely take recommendations here, and from family/friends, on where people went where they liked the food.

Personally, I love all-inclusive and highly recommend it-- as long as the food is good.

Playa del Carmen is fabulous-- you fly into Cancun, but it's about 50 miles down the beach, and is much more relaxed. I've stayed at the Porto Real and it's great.

Stay away from the Gran Bahia Principe, Tulum, and Coba in Tulum. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is nice enough and the food was actually not bad, but the beach... the beach is sized for one hotel, not three. It's way too small for the number of people. Everyday we were packed in their like sardines. We ended up just hanging out by the hotel pool instead.
