recommend family friendly bike trails in austin

The wife has the idea of us all going bicycle riding, which would include hauling a bike trailer with two kids. Before we get her a bike and buy a trailer, I want to make sure there are safe places to ride around in Austin since this is supposed to be a family, kid friendly event.

I know of the veloway. Town Lake is too crowded. You guys have any recommendations on family, kid friendly places to ride?

This post is regarding places for a family and kid activity (not how to do stuff).

Wells Branch Park and Brushy Creek Lake Park have 5-6 miles worth of trails. Both are very popular with families, bike riders....and both have playscape parks for the kiddos to play at.

There are some less crowded areas of Town Lake hike and bike. You could park near Holiday Inn and go east to teh dam and turn around and come back. If you take it slow, the hike and bike could work.

Can you ride in your neighborhood, or is it too hairy?

Try the trail around Dick Nichols Park (it's paved) and or the trails through the greenbelt across Beckett from the park.

oh, you are looking for paved trails.... or highly groomed ones like town lake. sorry, no help from me.
