Hail damaged roof in March- got insurance ok for new roof. Leander/Cedar Park based company preferred but definitely not required

Big Will's crew will do it for much less than NCAAFOOTBALLROX, I'm thinking.

Definitly check out NCAAFOOTBALLROX's roofing company. He has given countless pieces of advice on roofing to this board over the years.

signed a quote with their stamp i would only pay my deductible. guy tells me ins. didn't allow enough and he'd call them and meet them at my house to look things over. this never happened. when i called him to ask when he was coming, he said he'd get it taken care of after the fact.

don't exactly remember when i signed the deal to do it, but it took a couple months for them to realize they lost my paperwork, place the order for the materials, and get someone out to do it. they were supposed to come aug 15. that rolled around and, oops, they forgot to order the materials. call me to tell me they're coming labor day weekend to do it. i had guests, told them to come tuesday after. they came wednesday (told me they'd be there tuesday)

actually seemed like they did a great job. so i was happy. it didn't rain for a month. during that month i got roof rats. turns out, they left 4 fairly large holes in my roof that their inspector missed. woke up the first week of october with a leak when it finally rained. they fixed it. 3 days later there was another leak. they fixed it. 1 week later another leak. at this point i was about to call a lawyer and have someone else redo the job. took 3 months to get them to paint my ceiling and repair the water damage. had to get my insurance company involved b/c they stopped returning my phone calls.

1 month ago i got a bill for them. it's the difference that was left over with the quote and my deductible and the money from the insurance company. it'll be a cold day in hell before they get anything else from me.

they were referred from my insurance company (usaa). i've filed all sorts of complaints with them and will do anything to discourage people from using them.

*no telling exactly how much damage was done by the roof rats, but the exterminator i used said there was no doubt they came in those holes.

yes, i'm in austin. if you're dealing with dave cappert, i feel for you. if gerald spencer is your foreman, he's great, just make sure he doesn't rush over things.

*Gerald is really nice. they broke one of my landscape lights and he brought one back later that day. he's also the one that missed the 4 holes in my roof.

Gerald is a great guy. you're going to have to stay on him to get things done. he's a yes man. yes to everything doesn't exactly mean it gets done right.

Thanks for the heads up. I really wonder if i can back out and go with somebody else. I just don't see how a company that big can be so incompetent.

Hello.8^)

Been busy & not around this section of teh webs much lately.

It matters not what insurance co. you have, only that you are ready to pay your full deductible & the insurance co. or the independent adjuster for them has offered enough money.

WITHIN that deductible dollar, I have a few upgrades that we usually look to do for you & this usually means no additional out of pocket.

OTOH, if you are looking to save a few bucks on your deductible, then I am probably not the right guy for you.*

In relation to the situation described above, all I can say is that is what often happens with a co. that employs 2 or 3 layers of people between you & the roof (i.e. a salesperson you may never see again, a foreman, a crew supervisor, an ordering person in the office, etc). with me, the ship CAN turn rather quickly because in the end, all I have to do is satisfy YOU, the customer. One problem, though, is that I'm super busy right now & it's almost a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease fastest.

What I do try to offer is a bit more of a hands on approach & an explanation of exactly what your project might need.

*There is only one way you can have me do the job & not have your full deductible charged & this is only if your insurance co. has paid out all of "their portion" of your claim & they don't owe you any additional dollars unless their adjustment was in error & not enough $$ on their part.

** iF YOU HAVE NO IMPROVEMENTS OR UPGRADES IN MIND, THEN YOU WILL NEVER PAY MORE THAN YOUR DEDUCTIBLE.
**

I have access to the "Xactimate" program & the prices that are listed on there; it is the same pricing program that 90% of the insurance co's use to adjust claims.

I did an inspection on a house in Avery Ranch just yesterday that was priced wrong; the insurance co. did not pay for any 2 story labor charges (an obvious omission on this 85% 2 story house) & they did not pay anything for the broken window beading (vinyl). The house is only 4 years old, so there is no way any of this was due to sunlight.

Because there are multiple trades involved (roof, gutters, air conditioning comb out (undervalued, IMO) & window beading, this should automatically kick in the 10% overhead & 10% contractor's fees (this is so that a homeowner can get a one stop contractor & not have to hunt down all of these repair services on their own).

Total price change: from $ 5,533.55 up to (if approved @ the new figure) $ 8,350.10, or a total difference of $ 2,816.55.

To date, I have done about 30 repairs or total re-roofing(s) for HF & 'other site' folks. The most recent was a 2nd time around for CleverNickName; did his house 2 years ago when he bought the house & then again recently from this latest Austin hailstorm.

The website is going to be your easiest way to reach me & find out info.

Thanks, y'all.

Whoever you use, make sure you get a paid receipt for the materials used, or you could be looking at a lien on your house
that you will then have to pay. This is good advise for any materials used by contractors you employ.

I have my customers pay for the parts directly to Roofing Supply Group (or) BradCo Supply.

No parts liens to worry about there.

NCAA,

What about concrete tile roofs? I just bought a house with a concrete tile roof, and am missing a few tiles. May also have a small leak. Do you do those? If not, who does?

Thanks.

In no particular order...

Austin Horn, check your Email... the estimate should be in there. Call or Email if it's not opening for you (.jpg).

No hot mop jobs (tar & ballast). That stuff is a mess & isn't really code in coastal areas. Turns the gravel into eleventy-billion tiny missiles.

We can, however, switch you over to something equally (or longer) lasting. Plus, this other product we use (single ply PVC, hot air sealed seams, no open flames) has a mfg's 20 year guarantee, 12 million dollar warranty on CONTENTS, been in use for 30 years, & can provide "LEED" credits (wiki for info), or tax credits for usage. Super energy efficient & in a lot of cases, we don't actually have to remove any of the old product, so less landfill waste issues.

Concrete tile - yeah, we can replace those. Where are you located? It's actually not that difficult a process if you have a roof that's not too steep; cut some wedges out of 1x / 2x4's & you're golden... make about 5 of them for easiest use.

If you don't know what I mean about the wedges, I can show you pretty easy.

Re: San Antonio crew...

We go that far. If it's a backyard shed, then no... not really desirable.

"Normal" roof, that's within our scope. I have done SA houses (a favorite was in Alamo Heights; built in 1903; from the top of the 2nd story, you can easily see the brewery).

PM me here or go to the website.
