Recommend a CD for a 7 year old

My nephew's birthday is this weekend. I don't want to get him another damned $50 Sonic/Mario video game. He and his older (10 y.o.) brother are both pretty sharp and culturally aware for their age, and they've started getting into music lately. He likes Bon Jovi and Kiss; his brother likes SRV.

Last year I gave the brother a Lynrd Skynrd Greatest Hits CD which seemed to go over well. Any other ideas? I'm thinking maybe Van Halen but some of their stuff can get a little more suggestive than I'm comfortable exposing a 7 year old to. Cheap Trick? Eagles? Rush might be a little over their heads right now. Queen is a bit too... uh... well you know. Maybe John Mellencamp? I'd say Allman Brothers but those 12 minute jams get a little tedious even for me, much less a 7 year old.

Doesn't necessarily have to be classic rock, but I'd kinda like to expose them to something other than that Hanna Montana/High School Musical stuff they seem to be bombarded with otherwise.

My 7 and 5 year old love Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. Pretty cool when your boy gets in the truck and says "put on 'Ring of Fire.'"

And when my daughter was even younger, she always wanted me to play my Max Stallings CD.

Hell, Don Williams Greatest Hits would go over well with that crowd -- good and easy melodies, easy to follow, and great stuff.

Corrosion of Conformity - Blind

it is your duty as Uncle Guapo to make sure he doesn't grow up to be a candy ***.

My brother in laws daughter loves......... Frank Zappa. (weird)

I'd say Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
some Beach Boys
and some Moody Blues

Find something like Moog Symphony or something using the Moog or synthesizers. Kids love the noises. If it is a good classical piece it expands their horizons to maybe like Classical at an early age.

Maybe something international like Ravi Shankar. The Sitar and Tabla sound very cool and is pleasing to the ear. Take him out to eat at an Indian food restaurant or something like that to put a memory with the music.

Save your money.

Ask him if he would like "that new CD"
He will ask "What CD?"
Point to your crotch and yell "See Deez nuts!!!!!!"

He will learn a joke for life.... and that is better than a present.

I talked to him last night and said "How'd you like a CD for your birthday?" and without even hesitating he blurted out "Yeah - SCORPIONS!!". So that answers that, I guess.

I still might get him an Eagles CD as well. And I thought The Cars might be a good choice, too.

Don't forget about Reign in Blood and maybe Aenima or Lateralus. Don't let that kid get into wuss rock.
