Recee Caldwell

The joke's on them - they have to live in Lubbock.

Could you clarify this statement?

GW was hired for his obvious ties to Lashann, and his involvement with his AAU team which at the time had 3 of the top 15 players in the 2015 class. Most of whom even committed shortly there after.

What dividends he has payed since then, I cannot tell you. He may very well be an invaluable asset to the coaching staff. But that is definitely what brought him to us.

That's a pretty good pick up for Tech. It looks like they have lost Taylor Agler though, not sure if that is related to Recee' or not. Taylor is headed to Ohio U.

I thought that was what you meant. I went back and re-read the article looking for any mention of the fact that a family member was now in the employ of Tech. I didn't find one. Tech's web site is unreachable now, so I couldn't go and check from their coaches roster. Yes GW was a surprising hire. But isn't Thompson one as well? One who hadn't coached an actual team, but only consulted after she retired?

What's wrong with that? It was a great move by Coach Aston, and a great move by tech. I don't understand why it's any different than hiring any assistant coach who's known as a great recruiter and has ties to an aau program. Wbb will never become men's basketball, there is not the kind of money that there is in men's basketball.

Okay now I see that a "Ray Caldwell" is on their staff.

@rattfatt I was in no way disparaging of his hire, just simply putting that my first thought when Ray Caldwell was hired was "pay for play" and I did not want to highlight that without pointing to the fact that us and the baptist have done the same thing. If it elevates the program to new heights, and is within the rules, then I am all for it.

I would also like to point out a distinction in the Thompson hire from GW because she was hired for her knowledge and ability to relate to the game/players. GW was more specifically tied to individual players. I am sure we could agree that their knowledge of the ins and outs of the game are on two completely different planets. Tina's most notable relationship was to Jordan Hosey whom had already been committed for two years so I don't think there is really a comparison there.

I get what your saying, I just didn't understand the pay for play thing. If you look at both Coach Washington and Ray Caldwell they were both brought in because of individual players, but they were also brought in because they were and are great talent developers. Coach Washington help to develop many players when he was an aau coach, including Brianna Turner and our own Kelsey Lang. He obviously developed Lashann into the player she is today. Ray Caldwell has developed many talented players including his own two daughters who were and are elite players.

So, if your a college head coach why wouldn't you hire coaches that can recruit and bring in talent, but also more importantly develop talent, like those two former aau coaches and directors have.
