Reccomend a media player for me to use

Preferibly not real player of windows media. Mostly for MP3s and other music playing in the background while I work, so if it only takes a little RAM, thats a plus.

Winamp 5 is good too, although it is a bigger package than 2. Run - don't walk, run - away from Winamp 3.

Is there a free program or version that will rip CDs to mp3s so that I can store them on my computer, or am I going to have to pay to get a good one?

I second Exact Audio Copy - it's a little slow but the results are great.

I use CDEx for ripping. Also free, and doesn't look like it's as time-consuming to setup as EAC.

It can rip, encode, tag in various formats and plays almost every audio format in existence. It has a simple UI, so it has a small footprint and although it packs a whole lot of features, it is somewhat less intuitive than Winamp or WMP.

Just my opinion.....but Foobar is a pain in the ***. Too simple in some areas, too complicated in others. One of the better playback programs I've heard, though.
