My folks gave me a pecan seedling from their old house. It's a native and it's growing really aggresively. I thought I had a winner until I noticed that my Dad must have hit it with his weed trimmer because the top of the main truck of the seedling is cut, and the topmost branch (about 1/2 inch from the top) grew upward. It looks healthy and has good leaf growth. My question is whether this damage will result in a weaker main trunk/branch as the tree increases in size, or should it grow fairly normal? I won't plant this until fall because the heat will kill it right now.
