Props to former UT guard Ray Harper who coached Western Ky to a comeback victory over Miss Valley St. in one of Tues. night's "play-in" games.

I remember Harper well. Part of the mass exodus after Abe Lemons was fired and Kaiser Bob was hired. If memory serves me correctly, Harper finished his career at Western Kentucky.

Harper transferred to Kentucky Wesleyan. He later was head coach there, as well as at Oklahoma City U.

Chambless is correct on all counts. Harper collected 2 Div. II titles at Ky. Wesleyan and oan NAIA title at OCU, iirc.

Thanks for the correction guys. I knew he went to a small Kentucky school after Texas, but wasn't exactly sure where. That was a couple of lifetimes ago.

Wow. I had heard negative references to Weltlich but, being before my time, I had no idea the origin. I looked him up on Wiki and...wow. Apparently, he pissed off so many players that he had to bring a cheerleader on to the team to fill out the roster. 6-22. I had no idea it was that bad.

Yes, it was that bad. Hiring Kaiser Bob was one of DeLoss' worst ever moves.
