Deviated septum surgery is relatively routine. The pain isn't bad so long as one does not knock the nose for a couple weeks - no basketball or football that's for sure.
deviated septum is a surgery i wouldnt want they go in and basicly reform it. then pack your nose with guaze ppl that have it say it feels like being hit in the head with a bat. then the next week for every other day you go in and have bloody boogers pulled out by the dr.... and the tonsils are very painful. but like they say it will help his breathing emensly
not everyone packs the nose, but you are right that your nose feels like it was smashed and it is even harder to breathe out of it immediately post-op. tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy does hurt. as with any surgery, there are risks/benefits. it is one of the most common procedures done in the country (#2 after ear tubes).
The recovery is anywhere between 5-14 days. the surgery is largely effective at curing sleep apnea in young children, but older children/adults may have other issues contributing to the pauses in breathing. usually, that is obesity. i don't think that's the case with jake. best of luck!
i had this done when i was 19.....when i woke up in my hospital room i was nauseous, hurled to one side and hit my face on the side bed rail....luckily not my nose (too hard). My dad almost SIHP on the spot, his insurance paid for the procedure. I imagine he was thinking "WTF do i tell my insurance guy about getting a 2nd operation
they pack the hell outta your nose w/ gauze...when the doc pulled yards and yards of that stuff from my schnoz it hurt like hell....that was 1975, hope it's an easier ordeal nowdays...that really sucked.
I had a deviated septum fixed and the difference was unbelievable in the ability to breath from my nose. I didn't think the surgery or recovery was that bad.
With the same surgery for my deviated septum I had my tonsils and adnoids removed. it was the tonsil and adnoid removal that was extremely painful. All I could say when I came out of surgery was give me more morphine. I lost 27 lbs. in three weeks because I didn't want to swallow anything, not even saliva It was horrific.
This medical procedure will be worth it in the long run. It isn't near the same but about 6 months ago I had a painful wisdom tooth. The dentist took it about and it was sore for about a week but afterward it has felt great since then and it certainly was worth it in the long run.
Well, Idahohorn, what flavor and color boogers do you prefer?
The account of the packing of the nasal passages with antibiotic impregnated gauze is correct - the removal being the worst part of the ordeal. Well worth it to be able to breathe fully through one's nose.
Well worth it is right!!!!
I work at in a hospital in Surgery and the Septo looks a whole lot worse than it is, and yes the tonsil is worse, and the older you are the worse it gets. This kid looks like a man and im sure he will take it in stride.
And for the record. I like regular boogers more yellow than green. the bloody ones send me up the wall
