Rasmussen Poll: Ron Paul would beat Obama

Paul has the best ideas, but he would lose in a head to head because much of the electorate would take a brief look at him and see and old man with a whiny voice and vote for Obama again. This is why we're likely to be bankrupt within the next 5 years.

Paul has some good ideas. But I don't think he would do well with more public exposure. Once the average American hears him talk it will be over for him.

If Ron Paul wins the nomination, I'll vote for him... and I'll feel damn good about it when I'm driving home from the polls.

If it's Romney or Santorum vs. Obama, I'll vote 3rd party (again).

I think there are people like me from both major parties who are fed up.

In response to the comments on Ron Paul's "presidentialness" -- I can't argue with what you guys are saying, but I think it's sad that Paul doesn't enjoy the same reform-minded, broad-based populist support that swept Obama into office (considering that Ron Paul is actually a populist and a reformer).

Ron Paul has some wonderful fiscal ideas but he has two glaring problems from my perspective:

1) Foreign affairs - probably enough said
2) His house record - to elaborate, he has consistently stood firm against earmarks for decades by mouth yet has added earmarks at an alarming rate for his district. He has a fairly reasonable explanation but it doesn't pass the sniff test. It comes across as not walking the walk.

Policy to policy though, I'd take Paul without hesitation. He is the best chance for the country's financial direction of all the candidates.

dheiman, why do you think he'd be bad at foreign affairs? Not being argumentative... just curious.

The basic tenet that he comes back to over and over again when discussing foreign affairs is that America is broke, and as such, we can't afford to be the policeman of the world. Hard to argue with that, IMO.

The Republicans seem hell-bent on nominating one of two candidates who will not be able to beat Obama. Meanwhile they have an actual conservative who COULD beat Obama and they are ignoring him.

We get what we deserve.

His stance on Iran is a show stopper? Well when you decide to finance an attack on Iran and also sign up for the front lines, then Ill believe you on that.

The head of Mossad has said Iran is not an existential threat, and US military intelligence has publicly stated the same thing.

We are technically broke, and are in debt to our eyeballs.

How Paul's position is a show stopper is beyond me. Hes the only one with any rational sense not trying to appeal to the dumbed down masses.

Satchel, there have been several polls that have shown this over the last several months. But then again, they have also shown other candidates doing well head to head as well.

The bottom line is we need policy change. It doesnt matter who is in office, we need actual policy change.
