pretty cool stats...but we all know the SEC has never lost a BCS game...or regular season game for that matter...

Should mention the home advantage. All 4 LSU wins were in New Orleans. Three of the USC wins were in LA. Of course the one USC loss was a home loss as well and the one Georgia loss was in Atlanta (b/c of Katrina damage).

I think tOSU should get the nod over LSU. They each have won one NC, four wins in total - so that would be a push. But, the fact tOSU appeared in two others, even though they lost, is better than not going at all.

The Vols obviously haven't been hot lately, but do you think Michigan or Georgia's BCS resume is more impressive than Tennessee's?

Won 1998 Fiesta Bowl (BCS Champ.)
Lost 1999 Fiesta Bowl

Only 2 appearances, but one of them was a BCS title, something neither UGA nor Michigan have been close to since the BCS began. I'm just askin'.

The Vols' BCS Championship was against one of the weakest opponents in championship history. Wasn't Florida State on something like their 3rd-string QB going into that game?

And, didn't TN get blasted in '99 to Nebraska or am I thinking of another bowl game?

I do not deny that UTenn belongs above UMich and UGA. I pointed out that, of the MNC games played to date, the FlaSt team that the Vols played was not only marred by an ***-kicking suffered at the hands of a mediocre team (not just a loss, but a 24-7 or so mauling) but also a squad hopelessly depleted by the loss of their top two QBs. How many meaningful PRACTICE snaps do you think Marcus Outzen got before the MNC game? Granted, the Vols get credit for taking a vet team with a first year starting QB (Tee 'Whatever Happened To' Martin) to the big show, but you can't ignore that they got to play a #2 who was not really the second best team, and not even as good as they might have been if they had only lost their first string QB. FlaSt was sporting a Peter Warrick that was running routes for a QB that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He never got any better. He was third string going on property management. It isn't even necessary to talk about the fortuitous route that the Vols took (I'm not talking about close games muscled away from dogged opponents, I am talking about people literally falling over themselves, dropping footballs, and then rolling away from the play like a vaudeville act). All I was saying was that the FlaSt team that the Vols played was crippled late in the season in a way that made them the lamest MNC game opponent, something which dulls the shine of the Vol win, however slightly (the Vols did take a first year starter and finish undefeated, winning it all, and claiming it with the only caveat being they didn't play the second best team).

I cannot say that the Vols would not have beaten tOSU had they played for all the marbles, but I can say that tOSU was better than a Marcus Outzen led FlaSt team. That is not saying much. That, and you get my drift.
