Rank the places you have lived

The other thread about living somewhere other than Austin got me thinking about how I would rank the places I've lived.

1. Denver, CO: I have lived here for the past two years and love it. I was a little hesitant to move out here at first because I'd lived in Texas all of my life and that is where all of my friends and family live. I'm a big outdoors person, so being close to the mountains and having good weather is really nice.

2. Austin, TX: Lived here while I was in college and had a blast. Like Denver, Austin is a great town for outdoor activities. There is always something to do in Austin. It drops below Denver for me because of the extremely hot summers.

3. New Braunfels, TX: I grew up here and really didn't appreciate it then. When I was in High School I thought it was a boring hick town and floating the river was the only cool thing. I moved back home for a year after college and really enjoyed being back in New Braunfels. It has more to offer than I gave it credit for when I was growing up.

4. Dallas, TX: I lived here for about 8 months before moving to Denver. I moved up to Dallas because it is where I got my first job after college. Other than going out on the lakes there aren't many outdoor activities in Dallas. Also I was working about 60 hour weeks while I lived there, so it didn't give me a lot of time to do things outside of work. Obviously this isn't Dallas' fault, but that is one of the reasons it ranks low for me.

5. Victoria, TX: I don't remember living here, because we moved away to New Braunfels when I was one years old; but a lot of my extended family still lives there so I'm there for most major holidays. There really isn't any redeeming qualities to Victoria for me and I wouldn't ever really consider moving back there.

I know there are some people out there that have lived in more varied places than me, so I'm curious to see how you would rank them and why you rank them that way.

1. Austin- I've lived here since I moved here for school back in 1988. Made a few ill advised moves during that time to 2 cities on this list, but I made it back home.

2. New Braunfels. Like Southland, I grew up here. Went to high school at NBHS. Found the town boring at the time. Looking back, I appreciate it a great deal.

3. Arlington. Always something to do, but the metroplex wasn't really my thing.

4. Houston. Born here, moved when I was 9. I supposed it was okay, but I was too young to remember much about it now.

5. Memphis, TN. Anyone who's been to Memphis knows why it's last on this list.

Austin (I put it ahead of SD and Sea because I really didn't experience those places. I was just a baby)

San Diego

Seattle

Virginia Beach

Nashville

Houston

Pensacola

Memphis

1. Austin
2. Oslo, Norway
3. Chicago, but I was pretty young.

1. Austin. I want to move back to Austin so bad. My wife can't stand the heat though.

2. New York (now). It's expensive but there's a lot to do and it's a very clean city.

3. San Francisco. It's deader than you would think for a big city. The people here are insane and stupid, but they think they're smarter than everyone else. But some parts of the bay area are breathtakingly beautiful.

4. Chicago. Lot's of fun. I spent my high school years here.

5. New York (when I was growing up). Total, absolute armpit. It was even filthier than San Francisco is now, if that's even possible. Don't get me wrong. I loved growing up in NYC but it was dangerous and dirty back then.

1) Austin
2) San Fransisco
3) Englewood, FL
4) Fort Myers Beach, FL
5) Eugene, OR

6) Mamaroneck, N.Y. - Very expensive and sometimes worth it
7) Syracuse, N.Y. - Very inexpensive but not worth it
8) Tampa, Fla. - OK for vacations and a truly horrible place to call home.

I need a Wolf Shirt.

1) Spokane, WA: Nice city with lots to do. Good weather. tons, of lakes/ forests to run around in. Great place to be a kid.

2) Austin: Only negatives are the heat and the expense of living near the center of town.

3) Tulsa OK: Rolling hills, trees, lakes. Cheapest housing in the nation.

4) Lompoc, CA. : Awesome climate. Striking distance to LA, Beaches, Mountains. Another great place to be a kid.

5) Goldsboro, NC: Great little city.

6) Corpus: Loved the laid back lifestyle, but the place is just ugly and the weather is the worst.

7) Wichita, KS: Surprisingly nice, but boring town

8) Abliene,TX.: Butt ugly, boring, but the people are some of the nicest ive ever been around.

9) Minot, ND: The worst...........The place is a frigging moonscape, boring and the weather can barely support life.

Scenic Beauty and non-hot climate are my biggest factors.(I dig the outdoors) If quality of people, culture, and economic opportunity were weighted heavier the Texas cities would dominate my list

If I counted where I studied abroad for a summer, it'd be number one by far. Merida, Venezuela.

1. Houston -- After 10 years out of state (which I don't recommend), I absolutely am loving it here. I think Houston is quite underrated.

1a. Austin -- I haven't lived there in more than 10 years, but am there quite a bit. It's changed so much since I actually "lived" there, I can't really judge.

2. Atlanta -- I didn't live there long, so maybe I have an inflated opinion of the city.

3. Corpus -- My hometown. I hated it when I was growing up, but when I moved back after college I had a whole new appreciation of it. I realized it was a pretty fun place to grow up and live. Nothing wrong with having a beach 10 miles from one's house (or 30 mi if you're hitting Port A).

4. Tulsa -- OK, OK. I lived there 7 years. I hated it for the first two years, but once I started really making friends there, it got better. It is actually a nice, inexpensive place to live, as long as you can forget you're in Mobilehoma. I just could never get over the horrible, icy winters and cold. Tulsa is a very easy place to live, very little stress, etc.

5. Missoula, MT -- This is a great place to live if you love winter and can afford it. Unfortunately, at the time I lived there, I discovered how much I really hated winter/cold, and I hated my job. So my opinion is a little jaded. Vacation here in summer. I still go back to visit dear friends.

I guess I've always managed to make enough friends and find the positive in situations no matter where I've lived. That being said, I'm REALLY happy to be back in the Motherland.
