Rangers the past few days...

Ouch. The real identity of this pitching staff is starting to show. Last 4 games they have given up 48 runs and well over 600 pitches. Hopefully they can turn it around cause the Angels aren't looking back and waiting for us.

If I was one of the Rangers' hitters putting up 9-12 runs a game but still losing, I would be PISSED. That pitching staff (namely the 'pen) makes me want to puke.

awful

j wright has been decent all year and now can't get anyone out. i think kam loe is the devil and can't stand him. benoit is starting to piss me off.

but we have all sorts of minor league talent we won't trade for pitching (or can't).

Rupe's outing the other day was encouraging. Project El Lizard started off about as poorly as imagineable. I know Wash wanted to stick with him to eat innings and was basically conceeding the game at that point, but you almost have to feel sorry for him, the way he was just getting ROCKED.

WTF ever happened to Littleton?

i thought nellie would get 1 last chance this season, but now i'm wondering if his time has run out already, at least with the rangers. he might need a change of scenery.

They've mentioned him a few times. He's just a guy who can tear up the minors, but is not consistant enough for the majors. I believe he has run out of chances.

Why all of the talk about Cruz and Botts. They are both not cut out for MLB. Botts more than anything. He is not a major league player. Remember Moneyball? He has the look, but he does not have it for whatever reason.

Well the Rangers managed to split the 4 game series with Cleveland. And I guess that is all you can hope for giving up 39 runs. They really need Millwood and Padilla to eat up some innings with something like an ERA of 4 or 5 for the rest of the season. Otherwise the bullpen will non-existant by August 15.

Nothing tops Benoit's meltdown the other night against Cleveland. Simply brutal. He was walking batters the other night like they had "Go-Directly-to'First-Base," cards. Here's a helluva line....1 inning pitched, 4 walks, 2 bombs. Nice.

Middle relief is killing this team - gave up NINE runs in last two innings last night. The highlight was Robinson Tejada throwing a change-up...on a pitchout.

Fellow Rangers fans - keep in mind that 2008 is not about winning, it's about developing. This team will have had a terrific 2008 season if it -
-finishes within a couple of games of .500.
-winds up in third place in the West.
-avoids the temptation to trade for a quick fix.
-continues to develop the farm system at the right pace.

Now, there are some good trades that can happen. If some competitive team is desperate for a catcher at the trading deadline and will part with a starting pitcher, OK. If someone really wants Hank, I can go with that. But puh-leeze - no trades of top minor-leaguers for a rent-a-pitcher if the Rangers are within a couple or three games of the playoffs at the trading deadline.

Stay the course!
Next season will get here...

Went to the game tonight and it was the bullpen again. Feldman pitched 7 quality leaving with the scored tied at 2. Benoit couldn't get it done - got down to needing one strike with the bases loaded to get out a jam but instead gives up 2-run double.

Then to compound things, in the 9th Jamie Wright allows a baserunner who steals 2nd and 3rd (take your pick whether to blame Wright or Saltalamacchia, but then Wright skips one to the backstop for the easiest run the Rays will score this year...and after R's score one in the 8th and 9th that makes the bullpen meltdown even worse.

Hamilton went 0-5 with a FC Rbi in 9th the closest thing he had to a hit.

Get rid of Benoit. Now.

I agree with HornHusker. When it comes time to make deals to win a pennant this year, the Rangers, again, need to be a seller, not a buyer. They have some nice young talent and a potent batting order. If the arms get healthy and they have a rotation of Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy, Gabbard and Feldman pitching 7 strong innings most nights the bullpen will find itself.

Not to beat a dead horse, but watching Laird throw a laser to 2B for strike-em-out, throw-em-out after watching Salty contribute to winning run score due to his ineffective throwing - makes me NOT want to sacrifice wins all in the name of giving a chance to LEARN his position.

I realize there's a need to develop young players but you want to be competitive and try to win games. Pitching may be the area where you need to develop the young ones - but not the postion players.

I'm an Astro fan first and a Ranger fan second and as long as I can remember the Rangers just haven't had the pitching. As obvious of a statement as that is, how in the Hell do you trade away Chris Young, John Danks, Edison Volquez and Armando Gallaraga? Josh Hamilton is nice player, but that is a ridiculous flushing of talent right there.

NIce little rally by the Rangers, thought they would lay a compltete egg tonight but they have tied it up at 5. We will see if the pitching can last at all though.

Yeah Victor Rojas is the Spanish announcer. I like him though, not as much as TAG obviously, but he is good.

I hope Milton didn't hurt himself too bad. I hope he didn't start aggravating it when he was jumping with excitement.

He hurt himself in the bottom of the 9th on a ground ball. The whole play seemed harmless I don't know how serious it was. Anyone know?
