Rangers: the end is near

After tonight's loss in extras, I get the feeling they are almost done. They seem to have given just about all they can give, and it's almost enough, just not enough for the playoffs.

Now it's time to think comparison to expectations, and my prediction of 83 wins is definitely too low. So let's say they win between 85 and 90, the future is incredibly bright. The huge wildcard is the ownership change.

2 big question marks:

1. Will Nolan be able to buy the team? If so, then I'm thinking good improvement next year, contending again, add at least 5 wins to this year's total.

2. Josh Hamilton: can he ever regain a power hitting stroke?
I love what he has done with his average, but this has come with no homeruns. Really strange, sitting here thinking all we need is one key power hitter.

In reality, the rangers probably need one power hitter and one ace starting pitcher.

I would most likely have to agree with you in almost every other year of watching the Rangers, but if you've watched this team play this season, the one thing that stands out is their resilicancy and their abilty to not count themselves out.

I would not count them out so soon....after all, they may be 1 game out by the night's end.

Well, they are one game out today. Rangers gonna have to play the yanks, though, which is going to be tough.

Like most, I've been waiting for the game that marks the end. Most recently I thought it was the loss to the A's where they led going into the 9th and lost, then went on to lose 3 of 4 to the A's. They follwed that with series wins over the Angels and Red Sox.

Even with that extras loss the other night, last night the Rays, Red Sox and Angels all lost and the Rangers won. If they can keep it together through the Yankees and the Twins, they may have a shot because I understand that they have an easier finish than the teams they are chasing.

I wonder how much effect the success they are having this season, and more importantly the prospect of future success based on the production of young players has had on the price tag for this team.

I love the attitude and toughness of this Rangers team. I don't think they are out of it until mathematically eliminated. I don't know if they can catch the Angels or Yankess in the regular season, but I think they can catch the Red Sox and hold off the Rays. You look at the history of pennant races and a lot of bizarre stuff can happen. I think you are more likely to have a collapse happen to an aging collections of highly paid stars than to hungry young teams moving up.

It almost seems like the Rangers need to win every series for the rest of the year.

Those early losses to Detroit seem huge right now. That and the called third strike Friday night. Ouch!

Regardless of outcome, I haven't enjoyed a summer this much in a long time.

And it kind of takes away some of the sting leftover from events that happened in Omaha in late June...
