Rangers Red Sox

OK, fellow Ranger zealots, I apologize profusely for the fiasco last night at The Ballpark. Apparently Mrs. HHD and I did not cheer properly - or maybe it had something to do with the grapefruits Colby was serving up. At any rate, it was a game well worth forgetting.

Matt Harrison is on the hill tonight. Hope he can do better than Colby did last night. The lead in the AL West is down to 3-1/2 games, and I'm not expecting much help from the White Sox against the Angels. So it's pretty much up to the Rangers to win and keep winning. HUGE series against Anaheim this weekend. Let's get busy on a new recipe for winning mojo.

Colby always has the same response when people ask him about the dingers. "Well, that's what I get for throwing strikes."

He's going to be approaching "all time top 25 most HRs given up in a season" territory soon. There's a difference between throwing strikes and throwing corners. Gonzalez had 1 HR in his last 130-something plate appearances before last night.

^^^. I heard that quote on the radio and almost drove off the road. I know Colby's frustrated and all, but he's got to come up with a better answer than that. If that's what Colby's really thinking, he's likely to find himself back in the Japanese league real soon if he doesn't figure out the difference between throwing strikes and serving up meat.

we don't hold Colby's pitching of lack thereof against you.Tues. night was just not the Raner's night. Wed. night - Harrison's night is another story.. down 6-0 early.

ChiSox are no help. Rangers get blown out by the BoSox while the Angels appear headed to their second consecutive series sweep and a day off before heading to Arlington. Rangers lead will be down to 2.5 games (this time last week the lead was 7).

Bad time to fall into a slump.

^Exactly - a split is 100% essential. It would also help to win the series against the Angels this weekend.

Well, that certainly sucked! Hope Wash kicks some butts before tomorrow. This is now a big-time showdown with the Angels. Nothing less than two of three will be acceptable.

Thursday night I went and saw the Rangers vs. Red Sox. I’m a big Red Sox fan also.

I choose Thursday because I wanted to see Tim Wakefield pitch because he is a big link to baseball’s past with his knuckleball. Tim has 199 wins and I was thinking I might get to see his 200th. I bought good tickets behind the plate so I could watch his knuckleball slutter, dip and dart. Then, the Red Sox announced they were moving Wakefield to Friday night in Boston, so the Boston fans could see his 200th. I was frustrated, because of I had known that, I would have gone Wednesday night instead to see Josh Beckett instead. Possibly my last chance to see Wakefield since he is 45 and his contract is up after this year.

I had a good time see Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury and David Ortiz and even got to see Big Papi hit # 1711. Unfortunately the Rangers were helpless with only 3 hits and Jose Hamilton striking out three times.

So, if Rangers beat Sawx by 10 in Fenway and LAA beats the Twins by 1, shouldn't we gain something in the standings?

Twinkies with win in Anaheim, lead is now 4.5 and magic number is 20.

I have always thought it would take 90-91 wins to win the west. 23 left so 12-11 over that stretch gets to 91.

With Rangers schedule over next couple of weeks it will be a tough stretch. Really need to have 3 or more game lead heading into Anaheim for last weekend.

Well, Rangers spot Colby to a 3 run lead and he (along with Tateyama) promptly allow the BoSox to score 9 unanswered runes (8 in one inning). The BoSox are good, but Lewis and Tateyama are really throwing 'em meat these days. Speaking of which, Hamburger is in and throwing lots of pitches (but has yet to give up a run--he will though).

I soon as I hit "post", Hamburger gives up a bases-clearing double. 12-3 Sox---12 unanswered runs.

.

Oh well, turn about is fair play I guess.

and 11-4 Rangers today. Unfortunately the Angels won again today so the Rangers were not able to get the game the lost the the Angels yesterday. The Rangers need pitching help, but that has been a fact since the club arrived in Arlington.

what will be telling imo, is if the Rangers lose a series between now and the series in Anaheim, how much ground do they give up?

I would think as a Rangers fan that we should expect the team to lose at least one series.

If the series we lose coincides with an Angles sweep, and the lead goes to 1 game or so, then we're in some trouble.

If, however, we get lucky and the series loss happens while the Angels only win 2 of three or one of three, we still have a chance at a 3 game lead going to Anaheim.

I think that should be the goal, to be exactly 3 games ahead going to Anaheim.

That way the team stays sharp, knowing it has to win one of three to win the division.
