Rangers on TW...

Is it just me or is Time Warner showing less Rangers games this season than previous? I've always been able to find the Rangers on channel 77 or 12? (KNVA) at times in previous seasons when the Astros were on at the same time. But, I've only been able to find a handful of games on 77 so far this season.

What is up? Is there someone at TW we can contact about getting stuck watching the Astros? MLB package no good since we're 'IN MARKET' for Rangers but we get no games. Don't understand this. If I wanted to watch bad baseball from the Astros, I'd drive down the street and watch the local YMCA little league. C'mon already!

I feel better...thanks for listening!

I don't think that its just you. Several times the paper has said games would be on 77 and they aren't. They seem to have made 77 a channel where you need a cable box to receive it (I've got 4 of them so I'm not a cheap ***--just don't have one in my kitchen). Rangers games being availalbe used to be something I put in the good column when evaluating TWC v/ other options but not anymore. Anyone know what DirecTV does for Rangers games?

Agree on the box upgrade. I was about to purchase another box for my game watching room but then games started not showing up on 77. Not going to spend the extra money for a box just to get 77 and then the games still aren't being shown.

Seems like in the past you could contact TW and if enough people complained, they would step up. I really wish the sale of the Rangers would hurry up and go through so Nolan can move the Rangers affiliate to Round Rock. Maybe then, we'll get more Rangers coverage instead of Astros. And, we'll get the benefit of having one of the best farm systems playing in our back yard.

If you have a tv with a digital tuner like a new LCD or Plasma you don't need a cable box to get 77. It is cable channel 20-77. Just an FYI.

Edit: You may have to run the automatic channel selection function on your tv first. You can also pick up KBVO on 1525 this way without a cable box.

9497,

directv has all the Ranger games that aren't on ch 21 or ch 4.

They're on FSN=SW, so you'd need to buy the "sports pkg". About $85 a month, you pick up all sports channels (espn's, all FNS's, ALT, MSG, YES, NESN, MASN, FCS, B10 network etc) + one of the HBO or Showtime packages.

Kinda costly compared to free, but it's great for college sports and Rangers & mavs.

Horn2Run--that's in Dallas, right? I'm in Austin so I was curious if FSN-SW on DirecTV shows Astros games here (like they typically do on TWC) or if they show both Astros and Rangers on separate channels (which is what TWC used to be better about doing).

Thanks for the info on 20-77. That should work for the kitchen tv. That leaves one other tv that doesn't have a box but its a good start.

Are many games being shown on 1525? I've checked a few times but never found one?

I would think you'd get both astros and rangers in Austin...the pkg i'm talking about, i can see all 3 nba teams (altho i never watch them) and both MLB teams, at least the games on FSN. Most nites i get both rangers and astros at the same time(fsn).

Last year I complained (via email) to both TW-Austin and the Rangers front office. Each party pointed the blame at the other - I came away believing it was TW's blame/fault. TW did pick up more of their games as the season went along last year, though, to their credit.

The sad thing is that if TW elects not to show the regional broadcast, you are SOL with most other options (Extra Innings or MLBTV) because of the blackout restrictions. You could catch more Rangers games on TV if you lived in NY or LA than on TW-Austin. ******* sad.

If there is a silver lining, it has forced me to listen to the radio broadcast. I did that growing up because my dad was too cheap for cable, so hearing Eric Nadel brings back good memories.
