Rangers get bullpen help

Haven't seen this on the internets yet, but Ken Rosenthal on Fox is saying...

Rangers get Orioles set-up guy Koji Uehara for Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter. Looks like great acquisition for Rangers, but tough guys to give up IMHO.

BUT, Uehara has been absolute nails. In the month of July he's pitched 11 innings, 10 games, ZERO runs...against Yankees, Angels, Red Sox, Indians, etc., etc.

Looks like a great addition!

Agree H69 - Rangers need this guy and we have seen it lately when the bullpen is called upon.

I have been a T Hunter fan and I have always had high hopes for Chris Davis but we need the bullpen help that Uehara brings NOW

Good move Rangers!!!

I always had high hopes for Chris Davis. Lord know they will miss his bat in Round Rock. That said, this is great for this year. Plus we should note that Jon Daniels is spending big on Latin American players to stock the minor leagues. We still have a lot of talent at A, AA and AAA to bring in some young position players and starting pitchers.

It's the deal I'd make, except if Michael Young ever gets ticked off about his role again (which is likely this offseason). With Uehara, they're basically replacing O'Day, which means it's a one-and-done experiment. They only had to give up a starter who no longer had a spot as well as a corner infielder that can't get over the mental aspects of hitting beyond AAA. Guys they probably would have to part with anyhow.

If the Rangers don't make it back to the World Series, it's not going to be worth much in the long run. Their ability to contend for the pennant might have increased by a few percentage points.

Immediate bullpen help in exchange for two guys who simply don't have a place on the major league roster - pretty nice move with little downside. And no big-time prospects given away - I like it!

And now they need a starter for C.J.

Two straight games only goes a total of 7+ innings. Holland went 9 yesterday against the same lineup.

le'ts hope that was just a bad couple of games for C.J., but that's why they pay Jon D. the big bucks. I'm sure he has some kind of backup plan if C.J. goes down the tubes.

Getting Adams was the message to Feliz that he's in trouble if he can't be more consistent. When they picked up Uehara, Feliz was probably saying "*phew* thank goodness" and then when the Adams deal went through, a little bit of pee probably came out.

Great moves indeed but this doesn't automatically make us AL West champs as Dallas sports radio suggests. Our starters - minus Holland - have sucked lately.

And tonight was not a good start for Adams. After we crawl back in game to tie 5-5, he gave up a solo shot.

Agreed, Rex. I hate to bag on Michael after all he's done for this ballclub, but that error was huge.

^True. But remember the excitement of getting Cliff Lee at the trading deadline last year? Cliff struggled early, and the payoff didn't come until October - but the payoff was a World Series. Patience, Ranger zealots - there's still a lot of baseball to play, and this season the battle with the Angels is likely to go down to the wire.

^^I agree and I do recall Cliff Lee getting off to a rough start after the trade last year. I'm a patient fan (you have to be to be as long suffering as a Rangers fan as I have been), but it's still a little frustrating to get two key pieces to shore-up a weak spot and see them stumble right off the bat. Of course, the absence of timely-hitting from the offense and errors in the field aren't helping much either.

I'm also tired of seeing this team struggle in Detroit---what are they, 3-18 in the their last 21 games up there? That's nuts. Oh well, I guess that's the way baseball go.

The bullpen got to stretch and do their thing. In order:

Oliver
Koji
Adams
Feliz

2.2 innings. 0 runs, 1 hit, 25 of 32 pitches were strikes.

Shut.down.Tigers.

Bullpen will be needed for all the wrong reasons tonight. There will be no Holland shutout.

And the bullpen throws zeroes for NINE innings...and Michael, Elvis, Josh and a cast of thousands prevail in 11!!! Snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Using da feet of Elvis and Josh. Oh my gosh.

bullpen was awesome tonight. Once CJ and Colby get back into form we're going to be tough in sept....and hopefully thereafter

I am confident the bullpen will produce.. I am more concerned about the day-to-day . week-to-week health of the club. The good guys cannot afford to have key guys out of the lineup.

Feliz blows another save and CLE takes the lead in the 9th. Even though he's pitching in his third consecutive game in as many days (which is border-line bone-headed anyway), Feliz is not the same pitcher he was last year. This bullpen, even with the additions, is going to drive me nuts.

^Agree. If Feliz can't get his off-speed pitch to work properly, he can't close. If he struggles and blows another save, I wouldn't be surprised to see Adams move into the closer role. This is still a very close race with the Angels, and there is not a lot of room to spare.

I am fine with replacing Feliz now. Danno's correct. He is not the same.

About about my criticism of MY playing 3rd - I guess I should acknowledge how kick *** his bat has been. He has been a consistent baller and I like the guy. I just want beltre back at 3rd.
