Ranger report

Someone not getting a whole lot of praise this year is David F'n Murphy. This is the kind of guy the Rangers have needed for 5 years. He can play all OF positions, hits lefties pretty well and gets quality ABs. He is totally out of place hitting 5th but he has .270 with 15 HRs and 75 RBIs potential which means you put him in the 7 hole for 450 ABs for the next 5-7 years. I just think the kid hits like a 7 hole hitter. He knows he needs to drive in runs here and there, work the count, hit for a little bit of pop and play defense. I love the kids game and hope this works out.

I hope Blalock comes back from injury and lights the world up so we can trade him. I absolutely love the Vasquez/Duran platoon. Having 2 guys on your team who can play just about any IF position is very underrated. One hits left-handed and both can do things like bunt and play defense.

We have to trade for starting pitching. If E Hurley is all we have to look forward to then we are in sad shape. We need to trade Kinsler and Blalock for some solid young SP talent that we can pencil in the rotation next year. Are we going to roll K Millwood out there as our ace next year? I love his attitude and he's a bulldog but the bottom line is he used to throw 95mph and now he's a high 80s/low 90s guy and his stuff just isnt' good enough to compensate for lack of velocity. Millwood, Padilla, BMac, Gabbard and Hurley is looking like our projection and that sucks. If we can unload Millwood for anything I say we do it.

BTW, I like the Padilla signing last year and I still like it. I don't know what happened to him last year but I don't know many SPs in the bigs who can win 10+ games just throwing a fastball. He pumped it up to 97mph in the 6th or 7th last night. Greatness.

go ahead and get your hopes up, they should have traded blalock a looong time ago for more pitching. I'm still not over being pissed off at them for trading Danks away, for the love of God they have traded good pitching away for over 30 years and they still do it. good pitching, bad pitching and pitching that hasn't even developed yet, it doesn't matter, they trade it. in fact, they are more likely to trade more pitching for more hitters than vice versa.

Brandon Boggs = Brandon Bass? Same guy?

For the record, in an earlier thread that people were talking about blowing up the Rangers, I put forth the premise that they have a great outfield right now - Hamilton, Bradley and Murphy (tho I called him David Hulse

) It's got a chance. And as I said, Murphy is a a real ballplayer.

Hook'em!!!

They may be ******, but 31 consecutive shutout innings is impressive any way you look at it. At the very least, they are fun to watch again.

Trade Kinsler?? That wouldn't be a smart move at all. Admittedly, his defense has been shoddy -- but his bat and his intangibles make up for it. If Blalock can ever stay healthy, I would have no problem making that trade, but realistically, you won't get anything for a guy who has spent basically the last year on the DL. I agree about Millwood .... but if you are looking for the big trade, its not gonna happen. I, too, wish the McCarthy/Danks trade would never have happened. I remember hearing about acquiring McCarthy and being very excited — but my first thought was "don't let it be Danks." It was -- and that happiness faded. With Gabbard and Feldman, we have two guys who possibly could hold down the 4 and 5 spots in the order. Who knows how long Feldman can keep it up -- but so far, so good. Padilla has been lights-out -- but expect some roller coaster rides. That is just the way he is. As a #3 man, I can live with him. The problem is, we don't have a #1 or a #2. And we won't for a while, unless one of the kids comes on like gang-busters.
I do, however, like the direction this team is going. Hamilton, Kinsler, Bradley, Boggs, Murphy, Salty, Young -- that is a young team (with the exception of Michael) that we can build around. I also like the Vasquez/Duran combo. If Davis can come up and play, then this team has a future.
Quite simply, at this point, we have to get lucky with SP, starting with Hurley.

you make the classic mistake of expecting too much for players

If you think kinsler would get a pitcher that good you're insane

We are long on catchers and middle infielders. We've got Laird, Salty, Teagarden, and Ramirez all looking like they could start at catcher in the bigs by 2010. In the middle infield, we've got Kinsler and Young, and down on the farm we've got Andrus, Arias, and Benjamin. If we think Andrus is going to move up to the bigs by around 2010, we should consider trading Kinsler and moving Young back to 2B, where he's more natural. You put together a package deal with Ponson, Kinsler, and Ramirez, and you're talking a pretty nice deal to a team like Toronto that is long on pitching.

i guarantee you Kinsler isnt going anywheres

if anyone gets traded itd be MY

no one is trading pitching these days btw

basically every team has refused to trade their top pitching prospects

Rico, here's another classic mind-**** Washington move; this is the exact email I just sent to 3 buddies when I saw the move online:

"Let me set the scene:

Bottom 7, 1 out, bases loaded, down 3-2
My boy Vazquez is up, so Sea brings in a lefty, Rhodes
Washington calls for a PH (I don’t have a problem yet, because technically this is the right move.)
These are the four RH options on our bench: Bradley (sore shoulder), Byrd (activated off DL today), Duran, Laird

Now I don’t have anyway of knowing how bad Bradley’s shoulder is, but we have to assume he isn’t a viable option. That leaves Duran, who actually plays the same position as Vazquez & wouldn’t cost us an extra player on defense; Byrd, who hasn’t seen a major league pitch in 27 days; & Laird, who is the best hitter of the 3 against lefties & would be able to go in for Salty in sort of a double-switch since Duran obviously has to go in @ 3B regardless.

Having typed all that, I doubt I have to tell you my favorite skipper chose Byrd, who promptly grounded into an inning-ending DP!!

Wait it gets better: in the next inning (Bottom 8), we need a PH for Cat since Rhodes is still pitching. This time, we send up Laird who promptly singles to start the game-tying rally.

Now someone please tell me why Laird was not used for Vazquez, with the double-switch like stated above. Wash basically burned Byrd in a possible extra-inning game with our only other OF, Bradley, obviously not readily available."

Did Shelton really just bunt into a double play? I only get ESPN Gamecast updates, so I cannot see how truly pathetic that must have looked live.

stud13, you and me both brother. you can win the game right there and that's how you play it. you put your best PH in. like you said i have no idea how hurt Bradley is but M Byrd has proven to be nothing but **** this year. that said, m byrd is a really nice guy who everyone likes and everyone wants to see succeed but he flat out sucks.

ranger clusterfuck because he had value after last year but now has none. do we trade him for young cub OF? no.

hookemcw...shelton sucks big balls but why not bunt him there? i just don't know why. he's not albert pujols so you bunt his ***.

Mathis has looked good so far. I haven't seen him this year, but I saw him 8-9 times last year and his curve and slider were both plus pitches when on, but he was inconsistent with them from start-to-start.

If he continues throwing the curves and sliders well, he's going to be a very solid starting pitcher in the near future. Definitely promising that he's not afraid to go out there and start a big league hitter with those pitches. I'm not sure he would have done that last year.

Someone please explain the reasoning behind pinch hitting for Vasquez, who has been en fuego, with Byrd, who is hitting .125 and is 0-11 with runners in scoring position, with the bases loaded in the last Seattle game. Double play kills what could have been and we lose in 10.

Rico:

If MY is on the block, wouldn't you be more concerned with what you get back than where he goes (given JD's track record)?

I really don't get the NYY phobia, because they are probably no better than the Rangers right now and in the near future. They aren't going to be good while Young would be a contributor, imo.
