Randy Moss to the Cowboys?

Jerry and the 19 other owners that passed him up.

How about a straight up trade... Barber for Moss... or maybe Barber and Carpenter and Roy for Moss and Asante Samuel... and then we move up a little bit and pick one of the quality backs in this draft?

Trade? Barber is under contract, but as of this coming Friday Moss is an unrestricted free agent.

Actually Barber is a restricted FA, meaning that if the Cowboys offer a one year tender and he signs with another club they would either get a 1st round pick, or a 1st and 3rd as compensation, depending on the amount tendered.

This one is just as stupid as the Barber to Miami trade.

A. Jerry already passed on him during draft day and he has been pissed at the Cowboys ever since. He's also torched them pretty much every time he's played them.

B. T.O. has no love lost for Moss. That was shown in the fact he wouldn't refer to him by name before the Cowboys/Pats game this year and him going 'Big Bill' style and calling him 'The Other 81'

C. Moss is going to want a big payday after taking a paycut to go the the Pats. The Cowboys aren't exactly flush with cap-space to offer a mega-deal to lure him away from the Pats and you know T.O. is going to want as much, if not more, in the way of an extention if this trade somehow did get made.

Too many hurdles to get over for it to happen. Drive though please.

I think when Moss says he wants to play for a contender that doesn't put Dallas as the highest team on the list. When was the last time they won a playoff game?

I think the difference between not winning playoff games for 12 years and being a contender is a pretty fine line. The Cowboys are easily a contender in the NFC, even with their suspect safeties, injuries, and staff switches.

Dr.Fear - I can see how that can be taken out of context. Maybe he was saying it's odd how many thousands upon thousands of people die every year, and most go unnoticed but then if multiple people die together in an unusual way suddenly it becomes a tragedy.

It looks like Moss could very well stay in NE with a long term deal, but any contract extension/restructuring can't be announced until Friday at the earliest.

I guess I got some of the cowboy fans rolling with my comments above. I guess instead of using the term "ethical," I should have said Jerry passed on him because he was believed to be a knuckle-head with a ton of baggage and talent.

I do think that the way Moss responded to his drop off in Oakland and resumed his hall of fame play in New England, while staying under the off-field radar (mostly), that Jerry would be interested. I don't know about cap space and NFL finances, but I would bet if Jerry wants Moss and Moss wants to be a cowboy, Jerry and Stephen will figure out how to get it done.

I am not a Cowboy, but damn, can you imagine TO, Moss, Witten, and Barber with Romo running the show? Pretty damn impressive. There is no way to cover all the receivers and if you decide to play a ton of guys in coverage you have Barber banging with half the defense chasing those guys 15 yards down field.

I am sure Jason Garrett's football weiney is vibrating just thinking about it.

They lost by 4 ******* points to the eventual Super Bowl Champions, in a game they were winning at the half. How does that NOT make them a contender? I guess the Patriots weren't contenders either then.

The Cowboys playoff performance was a huge dissappointment, but anytime you go into the playoffs as the #1 seed, with home field advantage, you are a contender.

I doubt there will be many pre-season picks that don't have them in the playoffs or further in 2008.

No doubt they choked away the perfect position (as did GB and NE), but that doesn't mean they weren't a contender this year, or aren't likely to be one next year.

They had a great record b/c they had a great 1st 3/4ths of a season. The playoff game went just like their season.....3 great quarters and then they just fell apart.

There weren't many good or great teams in the NFC either.

It really comes down to what you feel like is a contender. Coming into the playoffs I didn't think the Giants were a contender and look what they did. Coming into the begining of the season same thing. So you can have a contender at the beginning of the season that does nothing. You can also have a contender near the end of the regular season that does nothing. You could say that any team making the playoffs is a contender. You could also say that any team with a 1st round bye is a legitimate contender. It is really parsing words a bit.

In my opinion Dallas looked great the 1st 3/4th of the season starting 12-1. They only lost to New England who was the best team in the league at that point off the season. They had also beaten the Giants twice, although the Giants were not playing the same as they did in the playoffs at that point of the season....But still you give Dallas credit for the great start of 12-1 and for whom they had beaten. But then at the end they barely squeak by Detroit with a last second 4th qtr come back, then go on to lose 2 out of the last 3 regular season games against rivals Philadelphia and Washington. Dallas who looked so great the 1st 13 games due in large part to its high powered offense only managed to score a combined 32 points in those 3 games. Taking those last 4 games into account I did not feel going into the playoffs that Dallas was going to perform very well and thus I did not think they were going to contend for a title. Overall in the season they were one of the better teams in the league last year but at the end of the season they weren't.

But hey what does that all mean? Who ever knows in the NFL these days who is going to be a contender the next season or who is going to be a contender at the end of the season. Things change so much from season to season and even within a single season due to its length. So perhaps the Cowboys are contenders but then I guess you could say 50% of the league is a contender every year.

Hope that helps explain my position on that.

Anyone that thinks (and I use that term loosely) the Cowboys are not a contender in the NFC is either blinded by hate, or incredibly ignorant.
