Ramonce Sent to Jail for Shock Probation

I hope this works.

"Former Texas running back Ramonce Taylor, who scored 15 touchdowns in the Longhorns' 2005 national championship season, is serving five months in jail for violating probation.

State District Judge Martha Trudo on Thursday revoked Taylor's probation from a state felony drug possession charge, sentencing him to two years in jail. She then suspended the sentence for five years under a process called "shock probation," sending Taylor to jail for five months. He will remain on probation after his release.

"This will give him an opportunity to straighten out," Bell County Assistant District Attorney Bob Odom told The Associated Press on Friday.

The Temple Daily Telegram reported that Clark's mother, Ramona Clark, began wailing during the hearing and was removed from the courtroom. She passed out and hit her head on the floor, but regained consciousness a few seconds later."

One can only hope that it will actually shock him.

Definately sad to see someone with so much talent flush it down the toliet for the hippie lettuce. RT, get your *** in gear.

Mr. Sunshine is correct. Also, in less draconian court rooms, RT may have had the option to just take 6 or 8 mos. in state jail and, as they say, come back "off paper". As is, he was adjudicated (convicted), and sent to jail as a condition of getting probation. In 5 mos. he comes back, and once again has to deal with being on probation (i.e. filling the little cup at random times). I can't believe he had a chance at deferred and a shot, however slim, at an NFL roster, and he pissed dirty. Burning weed vs. a chance to play on Sunday. I had my times as a young man, but I could have given up just about anything for that kind of opportunity.

Maybe Ramonce thinks that god is a Kansas City Chef, er, Chief? He can find him again there! RT, god may be everywhere to those who believe in him but I feel confident he does not play for that team nor live in that city, either one of them.

Ramonce testified that his workout for KC resulted in an invitation to mini-camp. He would have a 24/7 mentor, drug testing, and would have to carry a load at U. of Phoenix online with a 3.0 gpa while in camp. if he made it through the 2 mini-camps and training camp, he would have a 3 year deal.

Also, the reason Ramona passed out is that the judge said:

"I sentence you to 2 years confinement in state jail (prison).

PAUSE

"However, I am going to probate that sentence for a period of 5 years".

It was during that pause that she passed out, and we helped her from the courtroom, into a consultation room adjacent to it.

I can not stand the way Trudo does that pause. I warn all of my clients about it to avoid the shock.

Speaking of shock, this is not technically shock probation.

The multiple violations included several new offenses, including:

assault on Dana Scott, his girlfriend, while at Club Titanium, criminal trespass, and a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge from january 31, 2008.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ramonce and his family.
I pray this is the bottom and God provides him the will and strength to over come this addiction and the harm he has caused to himself and family.

"That harmless, non addictive herb."
What harm did the weed do?
I think it was the antiquated laws that did him the harm.
And a general streak of stupidity.

My understanding is that in general the defendant has to be squeaky clean while he's actually in jail, otherwise the entire sentence is served in jail (instead of most of it consisting of probation).

In some criminal cases, the prosecutor offers shock probation while pretty much knowing that the perp will not behave himself while in jail, so it sometimes (usually?) ends up being just straight jail time rather than a short jail sentence followed by a long period of probation.

Edit: before the lawyers cut me to shreds, let me say I'm not a lawyer and my understanding is from my experience in a criminal case (on the victim's side

) from discussions with one of the Travis County prosecutors.

coder:

This is NOT shock probation. shock is where no probation is given in the sentence, but instead a "real" jail sentence". you can then apply to "shock them out" on probation for the remainder of their sentence.

this is simply a probation, with jail time as a condition of that probation. actually, rt's original probation, when it was a deferred, to spare a conviction, had 30 days as a condition, which he did.

However, Bucky Harris will likely file a motion to amend the conditions of this probation. the amendment asked for would be to reduce/eliminate the 5 months term requirement. i can not quantify the likelihood of success of this motion.

Sux to be him but 'til he stands up and accepts the blame for his problems he most likely won't be doing any better. Blaming your problems on Church, God, School, or any lack there of isn't dealing with them.

Good Luck to him. I hope he gets it all figured out, does his time, and makes millions in the NFL.

I lost God when I went to college.

Did he check under the bed? Perhaps between the sofa cushions?
