Rambus DRAM

I bought a Dell several years ago, which is still running well and I don't have any problems with it. I would like to upgrade RAM on it (only have 128), but the problem is that I have that Rambus RDRAM ****. Anyone know where I can buy this stuff for a reasonable price??

My chip is still ok, a P4 1.3 Gig. Thanks.

You also have to install it in matching pairs. If you want 512 mb you have to install two 256 mb sticks.

Rdram also comes in different speeds. What ever your front side bus speed is multiply by 2. If it is 400MHz, you need 800MHz Rdram. You can buy the 1066MHz ram for a 400 MHZ front side bus system and it would work, but you would be wasting money.

Yeah, it was ****** of Dell to make this deal with Rambus back then.

Also, where can I find the "front side bus" speed? Thanks.

Anyone have some good recommendations for a hard drive and DVD burner?

You should have a service tag number on the side of your dell PC. Go here and enter the number. The Link It should tell you the memory you need. Since it is a 1.3 GHz machine, I would guess you need 800 MHz Rdram.

Yep, it was Intel in it's rush for "ultimate performance" at any cost. Basically, the P4 sucked in it's early incarnations and needed a little boost so it didn't look completely crappy when compared to the P3.

Dell needs to get their nose out of INtel's but and offer some AMD products, my apologies if they now do so.

Dell is a member of the Microsoft, Intel axis. They are now just begining to adapt in the server market, it will take at least a decade for them to adapt in the desktop one.

One would think that selling a product at less than its market price with the condition that they do not sell competitng brands would be ilegal.

As it stands one cannot even buy an OS less PC.
