Radiant Barrier

Please give me some input on radiant barrier methods. Had a guy come out and quote me $.76/ft to spray the radiant barrier paint in my attic. Existing home. Looking at a $1500 job here, is it worth it or is there some other better method? I'm wanting to reduce energy costs.

Buy the paint yourself. Look in the Greensheet for a painter. Call him up and say, "How much to come over and spray this stuff in my attic? Probably a lot less.

I'm certainly no expert, but it seems clear to me that the guys advertising radiant barrier installation try to value their service based on your energy savings. As in, "Dude, it will only cost you $1,500 to save 25% on your electric bill. It will pay for itself in no time." Even if the savings are really there, it doesn't mean you should pay someone $1,500 for a job that someone else will do for $1,000.

There's no magic technique for spraying paint on inside roof of your attic.
