Rachael is the new Destinee

Well, she’s getting there. Let’s face it: Destinee was Superwoman, or at least Spiderwoman. But Rachael is starting to make the same kind of startling, dominant plays. Teams can’t block her, and they can’t dig her either! Some of the match photos show her head and shoulders above the net when she attacks the ball, and she gets a whopper of an angle on it and a lot of force.

Rachael crushed an overpass in the 2nd set against Colorado. Mothers hide your children! Literally. There was another overpass a little later and none of the Buffs contested it, it was like, run! Open net for Rachael and she buried that one too. Watch out Buffs, that’s Rachael Adams, our latest Big XII Wheaties box cover girl!

For two and half sets Wednesday, Gregory was a lot of fun. The dude in the pink tights was funny. There was another goofball in a visor and a “Set Me Up with Hannah Allison” T-shirt. Yah, like I am sure she thought the plaid boxers hanging out from underneath the pink gym shorts were, like, so hot. Plus how he howled like a rabid dog every time she served. Dude, if that is the best plan you got, go back to the drawing board. His sidekick was a genial nerdy-looking guy with a “I Dig Sarah Palmer” T-shirt; he looked like he could be on the cast of The Big Bang Theory. Then there were all the weird Austin folks with pink pom-poms hanging out of strange places, and stuff. It was a lot of fun.

Then came the sucky part in the third set, when Hannah went down, and stayed down. 2500+ of us fans got that sick, awful feeling in our stomachs. I hate that feeling. Damnez-le! Excuse my French.

After an interminable half-minute, she got up gingerly, and I loved how her first instinct was, “I’m staying in.” I tell you, this girl has some Ashley Engle in her. Still, I was glad when the rational part of her brain had a word with her competitive spirit, and she came out. She limped off painfully with the trainer, but when she came out later, without even a compression boot or ice wrap, we could at least hope that it isn’t too bad. Goodness knows, we have enough girls on injured reserve already - enough for a whole season of House dedicated to athletic injuries!

Michelle Kocher came out, slotted in seamlessly, and the Horns took care of business. Rachael and Jen Doris put up ridiculous numbers, Amber was in the groove, Juliann caused at least one sonic boom, Sarah was looking more comfy, Sha’Dare worked hard on D and intangibles, and Lauren was her normal low error, steadying self.

Elliott could have had a cow over service errors, but he liked the sideout nums and so he was chill. All in all, a nice, nice feel-good match. Next up, the Horns road-trip it to picturesque Manhattan and Norman, and then we’ll see ‘em at home when they mop up Gregory with Texas Tech. UTVball fan says, check it out!

To me Rachael deserves all of the recognition is currently getting. I’m know the team has worked extremely hard during the off season. If Rachael continues at this pace, without a doubt she'ill become an All American.
What I do like about this team is the
consistency & balance they have shown thus far.
On a side note TX 3 Kansas St 0 & Rachael 12 Kill, 10 Blocks, Amber 10 Kills, Juliann 8 Kills & Doris 7 Kills

Hannah 31 sets & 4 kills (yeah she's a tough cookie) Way to go ladies
