Neil Hohlfeld died of a heart attack Saturday at age 56 while on vacation in New Mexico. He was that rare breed, the kind who told it like it was but stil earned the respect of those he covered.
Many of you probably don't know Neil. He covered everything from Aggie football to NASCAR to college baseball. He was the consumate baseball reporter, and his knowledge of the Astros in the 70s and 80s was without peer.
More that that, he was a great friend, never lording his status over anyone, making even the rawest sportswriter feel good. He could tell stories -- God, could he tell stories.

God Bless you Neil, a true Mensch, and your family.
I miss
