Quinn Ewers showed some leadership this week for his Texas Longhorns.

Texas is coming off a big win at Alabama last weekend. The Longhorns are 2-0 and will face Wyoming on Saturday. Ewers is trying to ensure that his teammates don’t get ahead of themselves.

According to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, the quarterback asked the coaches if he could hold a players-only meeting on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to help players maintain focus following the big win.

bck,

Exactly how many wide-***-open receivers that he NEVER looks at does it take for you to agree, Quinn has problems with his reads?

He certainly had serious problems with the reads last night. Since it was on LHN I can’t go back and watch it again to see if they were able to be seen on tv (due to smaller view window) but on three glaring pass plays the receiver broke WIDE open over the middle either before or at the same time Ewers was making his throw to a tight or closed window. One was a mid deep ball to Mitchel and can’t be certain on the others probably Sanders not for sure but they were open nonetheless. Standing in NEZ, behind Ewers my view was perfect.

If QE was a 5 star there is a serious problem with the rating system. He still overthrows receivers and does not see open ones. However, lets keep blaming the OL or the receivers and let him slide.Saban,at least has the courage to try other QBs when he has a problem.

Ewers is leading and winning.

However he often stares down the primary WR, misses open guys, and over throws open guys!

However, he has had too many receivers that have dropped catchable and sometimes huge key passes vs. bama and WY !!!

WM, You are right in that there is improvement fromQE and the receivers. QE was lucky he didnt get intercepted in the Wyoming game ( thanks for the drop from the defender). QE was slow for three quarters . Another coach would have let him sit on the pine and play someone else. This is Texas, and we are hard on QBs. I hope the young man proves me wrong. We shall see

I don’t think the decision is that clear cut. WR dropped passes, OL had motion penalties, and OL didn’t block as well as last week in pass pro. Do we bench the entire starting line-up based on your criteria?

Nope, just QB. These p;ayers are held to a different criteria now because they are paid players. Who makes the most money now,QB or OL or wide recelvers? I would say QE makes a lot more NIL money than the others.

I agree that QE performance wasn't clear cut. Everyone was a little off (except Brooks). What does QE look like if the WRs weren't dropping left and right early.

ER, I cannot disagree with your assessment. However, I don’t think we have a good alternative that is in any way close to being ready. There’s no way I would substitute Murphy or Manning at this time. Ewers is simply light years ahead of both of them…now. However, it is impossible to ignore his uneven performances.

I wish for two things. Either QE becomes more consistent, or the games evolve such that Murphy or Manning get a reasonable playing time. Or both. But to be realistic, I would not be in support of, or in any way, expect another quarterback to threaten Ewers.

Let me add that it would not surprise me one iota to see QE invited to New York for the Heisman ceremony. It also wouldn’t surprise me to see him as a first round pick.

Duke,I never said QE did not have the skills. I am sure that Sark is just as frustrated as the rest of us on QEs consistency. Last year he was playing great against Alabama until he was hurt.He seems to get rid of the ball quickly instead of looking for other open receivers,Maybe he is afraid of getting hit and throwing the ball too quick. I agree with you that QE has the potential to be at the Heisman. ceremony and be a first round pick. However, the way he is playing now neither will happen.
