Best route to take, time/distance-wise? Assuming I get out of Austin at the buttcrack of dawn, how long should it take me to get there? Backroad, batcave routes are welcome.

IH35N to dallas IH635e to IH30E. Pretty easy drive. No redlights! Not much to see on the way.

The back roads would be a pain in the *** and there still wouldn't be much to see. You could take 79 all the way to Carthage and hit 59 north. I wouldnt recommend it Though You will probably get stuck behind pulpwood trucks or slow moving cars and not be able to pass often. You could be in for a long day.

at least a 5hr trip. Probably closer to 6 by interstate.

If you do the highways mentioned above, which is what I would do, it should be roughly 3 hrs from Austin to Dallas and 3 hours from Dallas to Texarkana.

With different speed limits now compared to ~15 to 20 years ago (the last time I drove Dallas to Texarkana, it could be 2:45 & 2:45.

But basically you're looking at two 3hr chunks. Then you have to throw in your stop at the Czech Stop (or rival Czech bakery that makes MUCH better kolaches than the Czech Stop/Bakery...) and/or [fill in the blank] BBQ place that your family knows about that no one else does.

Enjoy the drive.

Bodacious BBQ in Mt. Pleasant used to be awesome. Dont know if it still there..
I would make a detour to Pittsburg for hot links though. about 15 miles from the interstate but worth it.

Tried numerous shortcuts to bypass Dallas, but none have been faster. Under no circumstances try 79. Extra hour and a half+. Tried the Italy-Ennis-Terrell route once to try to avoid rush hour in Dallas, and resigned to rush hour.

the question should be: what is the quickest route out of Texarkansas back to Austin?
