Question regarding Westerman and Auburn

How does Westerman know that Coach Grimes is going to stay at Auburn all the time he is there? Coach Grimes could get a job offer after next year and decide to take it. Also if Auburn does have another good year it is possible that Coach Chizik might leave. He may be offered much more money to coach a pro football team. What I mean is coaches are important but liking a school and location should be more important because sometimes coaches leave.

Well, I believe you can start wit him dismissing Texas' offer. He must thoroughly enjoy his time in Auburn, and in his situation, I can't blame him. I wouldn't agree, hell no, but I understand his action(s).

Realistically, it's impossible to tell, but I feel Westerman's decision isn't entirely based off of us not getting Grimes, or he would've acted sooner. Maybe it's the instable nature of our program, maybe he just hated Searels. I've heard Searels is a damn good recruiter, and as so, Westerman is probably well-acquainted with him and just not interested.

But honestly, you have to delve deeper. If you think his decision wasn't built from his father, you're a fool. Again, I can't entirely blame him. A father SHOULD be interested in what will build his son into the best prospect he can possible be, and there are too many question marks around Texas' program as we stand.

That, and those pretty diamond studs that Westerman has may have bene a heartwarming gift from WAR EAGLE, and his father likely has a matching pair himself.

Its over... I don't care to speculate about what happens to a recruit that changed his mind after all that happened here. It would be different had he changed his mind and all the previous Texas coaches not have been fired or retired.

Bill, you bring up some good questions. BTW, I always enjoy your focusness threads. It's one of the things I like about Hornfans.

I don't know enough about Christian Westerman. But the father seems to be too meddlesome in what is one of the most important decisions his son could make. I sure deep down he means well for his son but this will not help later in life. This could stunt his maturation process and ability to make decisions for himself.
There are going to be decisions like who to marry, should I take the job or not, etc. and the father won't be able to help him. I was thankful my dad allowed me to make my own decisions. I've made mistakes but I learned from them and I still consult with my old man from time to time.
But at the end of the day when you hit 17-18, you got to learn to be a man and make decisions for yourself. That said, I wish the young man success in his career.

While I totally get why no one likes this, I completely don't get logic going on here.

Whenever I take a new job, I consider very heavily how much I like the boss that I will be working for. It is true that he could quite the next week (I have had this happen before in fact) but I would not take a job with a boss I do not like. He has obviously found a boss he likes.

Also, the MB curse seems to apply to people that mess around with Texas. He seems to have been pretty straight up. There is no apperance that he was simply using Texas to get attention for himself. There are no signs that he was trying to keep us hanging. He didn't keep saying he was fully committed to the last second.

As far as I can tell he did absolutely nothing for us to complain about here other unless he was paid or his father steered him, but there really isn't a reason to believe that those things happened.

You and I would have made a different choice but I don't think the MB curse is going to strike this time. Personally, I see no reason not to wish him well.

There is no curse for simple decommits. Only the ones who showed their arse on the way out the door. Probably a good indicator of their character and likelihood to succeed wherever they landed. Glad they jumped as they probably would've been a detractor. There have been a few others I wish would've decommited...

Only the future will decide if there is a curse. According to BLEECHERS it has been rumored for months that he was leaving us. If so it may be on. To me months would mean at least three months or more. That would put his decision being made in October before we had our big collapse and before we changed coaches. If he had decided to leave then he should have announced it so maybe we could have gone after someone else. Of course maybe he knew we would honor his scholarship if he got injured so he hung on till now. Either way only the future will determine if there will be a curse or not.

I agree with Texdoc. This one recruit is occupying too much space in some of your heads. Don't worry about the 'what if' games, and just anxiously wait for signing day next week, when we can all be excited about the class that Mack reels in.
