Question for Scotland Travel

I'm going to Scotland in a month. We fly back from Heathrow. Do I want to fly from Edinburgh to London, or take a train (4.5 hours, per the schedule)? Is the train more scenic? Is dealing with bags on a train a hassle? If we take the train, what are the chances of sitting near a window?

Or is it just easier to fly? Do trains have the same security BS and check-in requirements that airports have?

train, especially if it takes you directly to heathrow. you will prob arrive at Kings Cross in london and may need to hop on another train.

we took a train from london to endinburg. we had no problem sitting by a window, there are no assigned seats...maybe there is for sleeper cars or first-class. i liked the scenery and had never ridden on a train in europe. once you're able to locate your "gate" the train stations are much more laid back, less of a hassle, and no security (we were there in '03). we didn't have any trouble with our bags, i think we stored them in the train car with us, maybe we checked a few, don't remember, but we had alot of fishing gear and didn't have any problems. we made a few quick stops in newcastle, leeds, etc, which i liked. we brought snacks and drinks on the train and met some nice folks - a student from glasgow, some guy from newcastle.
