I think we discussed this some time ago, but I need a quick answer:

Jumping rope for 1 hour
jumping rope for 30 minutes twice
jumping rope for 15 minutes 4 times

are all of these equal?

not a trainer, but I would bet the answer depends upon the length of time of recovery between the sets.

the less recovery time, the more similar the effect of each option.

Not enough information.

Equal to what? Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Also depends on the intensity and recovery time.

To a physicist, they are all equal amounts of work done. But that doesn't count in exercise physiology.

I think it would depend on what you're trying to accomplish. I think they would burn the same number of calories but if you were trying to build up aerobic endurance, obviously they are not equal.

Good info, TPE. So what is the best way to maximize aerobic activity? Once you stop the aerobic activity, the fatty acids and other products are again stored? How long do you typically have to rest for this to happen?

What tpe said. I am glad your information and training is more current than mine so I don't have to answer this stuff, just call you. One of the best days is when my training certificates expired. No more free advice questions from random people at parties. lol

Jump rope is a wonderful exercise since you have so much range and variety in what you can do and the workout/benefits you can get. I am getting mine out of the back room and setting up my heavy bag. A combo of that, pushups, crunches and wind sprints along w/ good bike rides will get me where I want to be. Well, and a sensible diet.
