Question about power lines

Are telephone lines frequently used as part of the transmission of electricity (i.e. are telephone lines generally installed along with power lines for the use of the power company)?

Above-ground, power and phone may share a pole, as may cable tv. Power, however, will be much higher.

Underground, No. Power can actually interfere with phone. Both may be buried in the same trench, but power will be at least 18" deeper.

Anyone know about living near powerlines? Is it unsafe? You hear about things like "cancer clusters" from power lines, but is that just urban myth with anectdotal evidence? Or is there some basis for this?

You can get cancer from almost anything. I'd bet thee is a study somewhere that says living near too many puppies and baby Jesuses will cause cancer. I wouldn't worry about it. If the power lines don't kill you the sun will, or the smog, or the cigars, or the not enough green food, or the power lines.

In that case, hornface, why don't you buy a nice condo on the Love Canal or in Chernobyl?
There are degrees of risk in cancer-causing substances.
As far as I know, no valid study has ever found power lines to cause cancer. Especially if you always wear an aluminum foil hat in your house.

Anyone else have any thought on MY questions???
