If ISU losing to Kansas drops them out of the Top25, it might improve our ranking in the B12, but that means a quality win will have to be Baylor, OU or ATM. Any thoughts on how important one of those is to make the big dance?
 
The Horns just need to FINISH. All three previous games against those teams were lost at the end. The wins are possible.....

Just need to finish strong!
 
I would agree against OU but as much as it pains me to say it, ATM and Baylor are teams that should beat us. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to steal W's from both.

But back to my question, if ISU drops out of the top 25 and we win only 4 of our last seven - losing only to ranked OU, ATM and Baylor - are we watching from home or does our 9-7 in the Big12 get us in. Do we have to get a win against one (or more) of those three to make the tournament?

4 of our current losses are to Top 10 teams. Three to top 5 teams.

I consider any victory in the Big12 a quality win, in particular with seven conf squads in the top 50 of the RPI. The Horn's current SOS is 22nd with an RPI of 38th, and that was before the win over K-State. Of course it would have been nice to upset one of our top ranked foes but I'm thrilled with the five in a row, the last three by double-digits. And if I remember correctly Tech was ranked when we beat them, and K-State was coming off five in a row themselves, with just two conf losses and appearing in the ORV category of both polls.

The reality is the Horns will make the NCAA tourney if they reach 19 wins; they're currently at 16 with seven and the conf tournament left to play. Of course none of us want to see this team finish with anything less than 20 victories, and hopefully more than that. If we can manage a few upsets during this final stretch we may end up with a fairly decent seeding as well. But one game at a time!
 
IMHO - 3 keys for us to go to the big dance

1. WIN ONE against BU, TAMU or OU in one of the remaining games. We really need to win two to give us a better chance.

2. FINISH THE GAME!! The middle 10 minutes of the 2nd half we lose gas, focus and determination. Kill'em, kick'em, punch'em until the last second. We must remain MENTALLY STRONG. This is when I wish Coach would put the bench (Bass, Gayle, Maria and Tiff) in the game and let them play 4/5 minutes. She can alternate Chassidy, Yvonne or Kat to be in with them. Let the starters regain composure and focus for the task at hand. Put the starters back in at about 6 minutes to go so they can claim the victory. This is all mental I believe. Mentally they go on vacation during this 10 minute stretch.

3. We must upset BU, TAMU or OU in the Big 12 tourny and make it to the final game. If we make it to the Big 12 final and have a good game whether win or lose I think they graciously give us a spot at the dance.
 
I think 8-8 will get the team in the NCAAs. Trying to be realistic, they have an excellent shot at going 9-7 with a win oU. Baylor will be really tough but winning that game won't do much if they fail to keep winning. A&M and Baylor are the class of the Big 12 thus far. I don't expect that to change but Texas has an excellent chance to finish 3rd or 4th in the league. The OU game will be the best shot at a win over those three. Horns are playing much better which is why I think they have a decent shot at sweeping those three games. But, they will be underdogs, probably big underdogs, against Baylor and A&M.
