I remember that comment getting some negative press. However, two things make it different from how the press handles GOP gaffes. First, the level and degree of outrage is no where near as extreme and persistent. Second, the apology that follows is promptly accepted, and the story quickly dies.

President Obama was making fun of himself in a good natured way and to me didn't come off nearly so offensive as Ann Coulter's "retarded." Like Obama, Coulter should be forgiven for a thoughtless slip, though when you've made your career on dishing out thoughtless insults ....
Honestly, I've watched Special Olympics and love it. Good sportsmanship, good humor and more joy than a room full of gold medal winners. Still, I come away admiring the athletes for their passion and good humor, not so much their skills.

I dislike Obama politically as much as anyone, but I would give him a complete pass on this one, even without an apology.

People in this country are too concerned about who's offended by who. We could all stand to grow thicker skin.

I agree that the media has a double standard based on who the speaker is.

BTW, I volunteered to help at a Special Olympics bowling competition in high school. They were probably better bowlers than most people. One guy on my lane bowled in the 160's.

Mr Deez again proves he is the most fair, reasonable person on this board. Plus that pic of Terry Crews rules.

I also see no reason why the president should take a beating for this. I'm tired of this "I'm offended, apologize to me!" ********. Actually I respect Ann Coulter (sp?) for this. Someone pretending to be offended for political gain...go **** yourself.
