Pulls on kitchen cabinets

Has anyone done this before? It seems like I should be able to do it myself. It's just about drilling a hole right? When we bought our house they didn't have any on the kitchen or bathroom cabinets. I went to Home Depot and the want like $5 ea for some of their hardware!!!! Damn, I have like 35 doors and 20 drawers I have to do. Any pointers on how to attack this?

are the cabinets wood?

My suggestion is to use a large piece of masking tape, preferably the blue painters kind. This will serve two purposes. It will allow you to mark the hole location, and will keep the wood from splintering.

BTW, on the drawers you MIGHT have to get a longer screw than what comes with the hardware. Don't worry, they are readily available and not expensive.

Good advice: buy online and make a template/drill guide for the holes. Be sure to drill from the front so that any drill wander doesn't affect the positioning of the pull. Get a drill bit intended for wood such as a brad point bit and clamp a piece of wood to the backside to minimize splintering on the exit hole.
