Post pictures that won, should have won, have a great story behind them, or you think made an impact on society...

I used to have the old Time-Life books growing up and some of the pictures on there were just unforgettable...

I am famliar with this photo knew the story behind it; I think it is one of the most disturbing / powerful I have ever seen.

A few weeks ago there was a thread on Texags titled something like "Post a photo showing the future of aggie football" and someone used this as a joke with a lame caption attempting comedy. It bothered me so much I felt tears coming up, and I am not a crier by any means. Thank god somone on the staff took it down.

OK.........my sincere apologies for getting off topic, since this photo didn't win the Pulitzer, and incredibly, wasn't even a finalist. But in the height of the Cold War, and having just studied the "current event" of the Soviet / Afghan war, when this pic showed up in my house on the cover of National Geographic, I stopped dead in my tracks, and stared at it for several minutes. I took it in my room, and didn't even crack the cover.......just stared at the picture.

When I saw this thread title.........24 years later..........this is the first and only picture that popped into my mind:

Turns out she was 12 or 13 at the time. National Geographic tracked her down a few years ago, and here's the Wikipedia entry on her story. Incredible stuff.
