PSA - Kingsford Lump

I recently got some Kingsford lump charcoal @ HEB because it was cheaper than the B&B @ a larger sized bag (in comparing to the smaller B&B bag).

WOW! The lumps were MUCH larger & compared with the B&B, there was no contest. Same goes for comparing to the HEB Central Market branded bags.

I'm sold unless someone can show me content that's not as "clean" as the other varieties.

At my ranch we're gettin' together. I'm cookin' for my friends. Cheap charcoal I bought, that's all I'll need in the end.

Honey, what am I going to DO? There will be no, bbq!!!

I believe Kingsford was the maker of lump charcoal featured on a Dirties Jobs episode. Honestly, you could save your own from charred but not burned to ash logs from your fireplace if you have one.

They say the lump charcoal does not burn as long as briquets, but I lke the flavor of lump better especially usiing a chimney to light it with no lighter fluid at all.

Shorty, agreed on all points.

The bags of lump from every mfg. I've seen all state "burns hotter, burns longer" however I only agree with the "hotter" part.

They also ignite a lot easier than briquettes & I don't think I've used fluid one time in the past 3 years since I got a chimney. Usually I'll place one or two pieces of Oak in there with the lump added around it, then start that.

If I'm in a hurry to get my fire up to useable heat or glow, I'll stoke it for about 20 seconds with my cactus burner rig off the propane tank (it used to be my 'torchdown kit' for roofing but I only do that type for repairs any more; it's all "cold process" for new installations these days).

I don't know how the hell you go about lighting Kingsford lump in a chimney. There is way too much space between the chunks for me to get it to light. But yes, the lump does burn way hotter than regular briquettes. I always use it for smoking at my dojo.
