PSA: Free Grand Slam at Denny's today

I took an early lunch, thinking I might capitalize on some free pancakes. Bad idea. The line at the Denny's was probably 60-70 people deep. No joke, the line went outside and around the building. Good luck.

Dumb. How much is a GrandSlam normally? 4 bucks? Aren't they like 2.99 between certain hours, and 3.99 otherwise?

Did they actually sit people, or were they serving in their parking lot on paper plates.

If this were the summer and I wasnt working, I'd probably go and order something else, then sit in the booth for hours just ordering more drinks. Just to piss off the people in line.

We don't have a Denny's here yet. So I didn't get to snicker at the crowds. It is amazing what people will do for something free. I remember at the State Fair, Borden was giving out tiny little soft serve ice cream cones. They would probably retail for a quarter. But the line had to be over 45 minutes long.

I don't get it. What is the upside for Denny's? Somekind of free advertising for giving away Millions of Dollars worth of Grand Slams??

Im glad i clicked on this thread.

I drove by Denny's yesterday and was wondering why the hell there were so many people standing outside waiting to get in.

If something is cheap, or on sale, it might be worth your time. If it is free, there will be a riot trying to get it. Every panhandler and n'eer do well will be there, every drug addict, alcoholics who slept in their clothes the last 12 days. OK, they need a plate of pancakes too, I guess.

Reminds me of 5 years ago when Krispy Kreme opened off 183 and Oak Knoll. Idiots idling in their SUV for hours waiting in line at the drive thru.

5 years later, that location is like a ghost town. You can hear cricket chirping.

Sheep, man, sheep.

I wonder if the poor waiters and waitresses and busboys got any tips off all that free food? Would suck if they worked their *** off for nothing but chump change.

We had a tennis tournament that day, and all the coaches were going to try to go to Denny's. It was packed. There was a line all the way around the building.

We went to IHOP, and our waitress said that almost half of her customers that morning came in only because Dennys was so packed.

IHOP probably benefitted more from this than Dennys did.
