I've been listening to it for about 3 weeks (internets holler)
It won't blow you away on first listen, but it will grow on you.
I always like to see the way albums are arranged, and I think they nailed this one. It seems to be built into 3 distinct parts (at least that's the way I feel listening to it).
Born Into a Light/Go Easy/Fix It/Magick gets the record off the ground. "Born Into a Light" is a good starter and "Fix It's" bluesy guitar builds into "Magick's" garage rock so well that it's ridiculous. It doesn't sound like it should work, but those 2 songs were made to go back to back. Those 4 songs just get you into the album. Good tempo mix.
The next 4 (Cobwebs/Let Us Down Easy/Crossed Out Name/Natural Ghost) are a lot more "classic" Ryan Adams - musically strong (not overly layered but enough) and evocative lyrics. I think "Natural Ghost" is my favorite song, lyrically, on the album - especially the opening.
The final 4 don't let up. "Sink Ships" is a good segue from the somewhat slower previous songs, but not so much of a gear shift that it seems out of place. "Evergreen" and "Like Yesterday" flow well into each other, and "Stop" is fitting for the final song on the album - I really don't think it would have worked anywhere else.
I don't know where to rank it yet, but I think it's a lot better after a few weeks in my truck's CD player than I did on my first listen. It feels like an album, not just a collection of songs like some of his records feel like (Demolition, 29)
