PS3 and Blu-Ray / HDMI

I have discussed this on other threads but wanted to start one by itself.

I finally got the HDMI cable for the PS3. This is where my first question came up. I can hook it up to the TV but only get audio through the TV. I wanted the surround sound with the great picture.

So after fooling around with some wires I hooked it up to where the HDMI goes to the tv and I have the standard A/V cables going to the receiver (which doesn't have HDMI jack).

After that I went into the PS3 settings and I believe i set up the audio and video options separately for video = HDMI and audio = A/V cords.

Did I do this right? i hooked it up and it looks and sounds great now so I'm going to go with that setup for now but just wanted some input from you guys.

So you're saying hook hdmi up to tv for video and then optical to receiver for audio?

did i have the right idea by setting the difference in the PS3 settings menu?

You are doing it the exact same way I am.

My receiver is old and doesn't have HDMI, but it does have optical. I have HDMI going to my tv and the optical to the receiver for audio. I changed the settings through the PS3 sound menu.
