On ESPNU radio yesterday, they were discussing the next crazy (but maybe logical) step for college football – extending college athletic eligibility to forever and becoming a true professional league that would compete head-to-head with the NFL for viewers. In that universe, Vince Young could opt to be a Longhorn for his entire career instead of going to the NFL (assuming the money got big enough). College football would field the same caliber of athletes as the NFL, but with all the advantages of its unique traditions, history and pageantry. I hope it doesn’t happen, but it blew my mind to think about it.
