Prospects for Trent Richardson?

HornDomination

Okay folks, I've been wondering about this one (RB out of Pensacola FL). This kid (according to the Rivals stories) LOVES us, even to the point of creating himself to play on TEXAS teams in CFB video games.

Now, the question: We've got Whaley already, but Richardson is some kind of talent. If we get Richardson, are we looking at "Whaley to LB" already? And what are the legit chances that The Maj can coerce this guy to leave SEC country? Gimme your thoughts...

The kids comments alone make me think we've got an excellent chance.

His video is just sick ... speed and power. His recruitment will be interesting to watch

This kid is really good and he really likes Texas but it is hard to believe that Urban Myer, Bobby Bowden, or Randy Shannon will let him get out of the state. However, it would be nice if Mack and Major can break out the extra strength snake oil and use it on him.

And yet this this guy nowhere to be seen in the rivals 100 for 2009? Tell me again why people get so caught up in these rankings?

I don't see why we would have to move Whaley to LB if we got Richardson... We can have two successful running backs come out of the same class...

I know everyone has an opinion, and is entitled to post it here, but to say "move" Whaley to LB just because we get Richardson, seems a lot premature. Just from my looking at the recent past, several wanted Selvin Young over Ivan Williams, then they wanted Jamaal Charles over Selvin Young, and then they wanted Vondrell McGee over Jamaal Charles. From reports I have read, we have 4 pretty damn goods backs here right now, so who is to say that these two may have to red-shirt. I know the history of true freshman backs seeing a lot of playing time, but they will both have to work for it. I am in Kilgore, the home town of 3 Horns, and 1 future Horn, and 10 miles from Vondrell McGee's hometown of Longview. I have watched some good football players the last 30 years. McGee is the best back I have seen from East Texas in quite some time. Just for what it's worth.

The idea of moving Whaley to lb ain't gonna happen. He's too big, too fast, too talented at running back to move anywhere else. Could he play linebacker? Yep. Will he? No...unless something totally unforeseen happens.

According to Scout, TX as not yet offered, but i think they are behind.
It says the schools that he is considering and have offered are Bama, FSU, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St, with a high interest in the cheater named Saben. Lets go make his dreams come true and get him to Austin.

Dear Auburn: All of your recruiting territories are belong to us.

I don't see this as an either/or situation with Richardson and Whaley. If Richardson visits, and verbals, that doesn't mean Whaley's getting a ticket to linebacker. BOTH are very talented running backs, and with the way the game is played today, you need more than one runner in the backfield.

If he really does like Texas as much as some claim, bring him in, give him the twenty five cent guided tour, and if he wants to vebal, let him. There's little to lose, since we already have a verbal from one of the best running backs in the country...and Whaley IS gonna stay at running back, no matter who else signs with Texas next year.

From what I see, it looks like the days of "one dominate back" are almost gone, if you are an elite school. The days of 30-35 carries a game seem to be a thing of the past. Texas has done this since Ricky left. Many others are doing it as well. Examples: Bush-White(USC), Slaton-Devine(UWV), Williams-Irons(AUB),McFadden-Jones(ARK), etc, etc. The first time I remember this 2-back system was with the famed Tennessee Cobb-Webb offense. I don't condone nor deny this system, but it seems the pro's are going to it as well.
