Guys I am gushing over the prolific offense we are piecing together.
Our offensive line is stacked. The second teamers are pushing for starting positions and even the recent '23 recruits are making noise. Looks like all the complaints we have made over the past decade about the oline and depth are going to recede like the water on the beach when a tsunami is about to strike.
What are the posters going to do when we can't complain about the offensive line. Sark and Flood are killing it.
We are also getting the QBs, RBs and WRs. Can you spell powerhouse just in time for the SEC. They are not gonna want to play us including Georgia and Bama. And if our defense will be just pretty good, if not real good, we are going to get a lot of 'w's. I see a string of 10 win seasons on the horizon just like the MB days.:bevo::bevo::bevo:
The talent is there, big time. My only reservation is the head coach, can he make the right decisions, especially during the game.

This team is loaded with talent and we've got the best offensive line we've had since probably when GWB was in office. We should have a very good team this year and quite possibly an exceptional one just in time for our 2024 SEC debut. My main concern is closing out wins. Watching the men's basketball team squander the lead in a winnable game vs. Miami threw a new log on this fire. As everyone knows we lost a lot of close games in the 4th quarter last year and what I need to see is the ability to close a game and the killer instinct to do it. Texas sports, football in particular, hasn't always shown that.

Who are you? Last year's pompoms was noticeably more critical. What changed?

Agree with everything you said, and also this, as I wrote on another thread that was, well, not so positive.

actually I am usually an optimist until I see otherwise. Then I will tell it like it is.
I think I predicted 10-2 for last. But Ewers and Sark shot me down.
I feel better about Ewers going into this season. I believe he now knows he can't just show up and wing it.
I believe he learned a thing or two.
Sark left a burr under my saddle. It will be there until he shows me something.

I think you will see a different Sark as well.
With a healthy Maliik and Arch I expect him to be less forgiving of his starting QB if that is indeed Ewers.
Card really served as no motivational threat to Ewers.
Everyone knew he was gone after the season.
I know we all want to win now, but Sark may have been willing to take the losses and the heat to find out exactly what he has in Ewers.
And allow Ewers to take his lumps and hopefully grow for this upcoming season.
I kind of hope we see Maliik have some packages.
I think he could bring something different to the game for DCs to have to plan for.
 
I'm worried that 2023 is going to look a lot like a poor man's version of 1999-2002. We'll have trouble running the ball when we need to, and try to make up for it by throwing 50 passes. We had the Big 3 then and decent TE play. Our run game wasn't particularly "bad" those years, but it also left us hanging against superior opponents.

I'd also take Hodges Mitchell and Cedric Benson over whatever committee we're putting out there in 2023, including Brooks and Baxter.

I hope you're right. He's talked a lot about open competition this offseason and how it's a big part of his philosophy. But so far he has seemed to be more dependent on his starters and less willing to rotate guys than any of our previous coaches (and it's not like we generally had better depth the previous decade either) - not just at QB, but elsewhere too.

We have capable runners and an OL with a year of seasoning. Bijan and Roschon wouldn't have had the seasons they did without blocking. And now they're a year better. And so is our QB.
 
Been hearing good things from Red and Baxter. I like at least 3 things about Red: 1) has good hands
2) runs with passion
3) versatility, you don't have to take him out on obvious passing downs. Also, he will be a receiving target on first or second down to keep the defense honest.
If Red is as good or nearly as good as Bijan at catching the ball, he will be a weapon.
I see three vying for the top dog of RBs, Brooks, Red and Baxter. Brooks is not a given IMO. We have a good RB group.
 
My press release on the state of a 2023 running game. 03APR2023.-

Methinks that Bijan would have had an even better year if he stayed for one more year. A much mote statistically better year based upon the OL/QB experience and added offensive weapons as the WR room has more talent taking pressure off of Robinson.

I deduce that based upon this analysis, along with the skills of the RB room.. UT will have a strong running attack in 2023.

And those teams had guys like Big Leonard and Big Mike at tackle and Derrick Dockery at G, so it's not like we were floundering then. We just got a little too one-dimensional (especially against OU) when we couldn't run the ball well. See our OK State loss this past year, and how we nearly blew it against KSU and ISU when we got a little in our heads on offense.

As a starter, absolutely. He'd be rated ahead of Baxter, Brooks, Red, and Blue if you took his 1996-97 recruiting ranking and compared it to any of theirs. He is 5th all time in APY at Texas despite only starting for 2 years. He held the XII single-game APY record. Show the man some respect.

wait, hold up a second. I just noticed Red was rated at 5.5 coming out of high school. I mean Will Stone a kicker was rated at 5.5. So Red has no business being on the field with the really good football players.
 
maybe it’s selective memory but it seemed like mitchell went down anytime anyone got a finger on his shoelaces.

i think i’d take baxter right now over mitchell.
