Problem with Skype and my Webcam

I can see everyone else - they can't see me.

I have a Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 and I open it I get geat video of ME. But when I go to make Video Calls on Skype (v4.1) my camera view does not appear to the party I've called.,,and does not appear on my Skye screen.

I get an error message that says "Your camera is being used by other software." For the life of me I cannot figure out what that would be. I have a Canon Scanner that is loaded but is only used when I connect it via USB. Otherwise I don't see any software that would be using it. I use Kodak sotware to load my camera that I take photos with - maybe that's it? But it's not in use either on my computer.

Help! I'm in Russia and would like for my family to see firsthand where I am.

I had the same problem with skype and I can't remember what the exact solution was. I do remember that windows will not allow one webcam to be used by more than one application.

I want to say that my webcam software was running at the same time as skype itself and that was the conflict. I may be off base but I think I had to shut the webcam software and then configure skype with the type/model of the webcam within skype itself.

Check the forums for skype, there was a ton of troubleshooting there. Good luck, it took me some playing around to figure it out.

Mr. Horse, you, my friend, are a by-god Genius. I ALWAYS open my camera first and then open Skype. I would have never, ever thought of that. Thank you very much.

I definitely owe you a beer!
