Problem with HP Pavilion dv6000

When I try to turn on the computer I get one long beep and two short beeps and the screen stays black and won't come on. Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Either you have a motherboard problem or a memory problem. That you get alerts (tones) makes me think the latter.
