I thought I would share this story… I was listening to the local sports radio here in Boise, Idaho a few days ago, and the host was reliving his Super Bowl experience in Dallas. At one point he was at a pre-game event in some large convention center. He was talking about how crowded, loud and crazy it was; with a “who’s who” of personalities walking around; movie stars, sports personalities, former NFL greats, etc.
His story had one purpose, to relate his amazement at the incredible effect one individual had on the crowd above all other personalities that walked in. As this person hobbled into the hall, struggling to walk with the assistance of two canes, head bowed in obvious pain, a hush fell over the entire crowd and everyone turned to look with respect. That person was…Earl Campbell.
I’ll admit I got a little choked up.
